I find that the extra firepower involved in clan weapons, coupled with the better targeting rolls, blows through the slightly increased armor much, much quicker than 3025 tech.
And while a 3025 Mech can operate just fine with a side torso gone, a clan mech minus a side torso is getting cooked from engine heat - and a 3050 mech is dead, dead, dead.
All this means that the higher the tech level, the faster the game is over.

yeenoghu wrote:And yes Tyyr, I have read a TRO 3025 (just last night!). Something about a 20 ton mech carrying a ton of machinegun ammo instead of a half a ton, or maybe all those mechs who keep their ammo supplies in their CT, or absurd weapons configurations like the archer's only close range weapons being in its arms which should be punching in an ideal world, or the trebuchet's arm-mounted LRM15, or the Jagermech's um, everything -
Full ton of machine gun ammo is legacy mech design. make a /a variant with half a ton of ammo and, dunno, and extra half ton of armor. As far as ammo in the CT, next to the head isn't that the safest place to keep it in a CASEless world? For the Archer, I'd rather be shooting than punching. Trebuchet, flip that arm and you've got an LRM pointed to the rear (run away!). Jagermech, you win, I've never figured out the AC/2 (after 23 years) as it just seems like a really heavy, long range machinegun that doesn't do horrible, horrible things to infantry like an actual machine gun does.

Only place a Jagermech can be helpful is against VTOLs. A jagermech with a good gunnery skill sniping at VTOLs from long range can be nasty. Doesnt take much to knock out rotors.
Its not too bad against light mechs either.
Its stated in the fluff here and there that it is primarily a anti-aircraft mech.

VTOL's? Who takes VTOL's? I'm aware of the fluff and understand it, and appreciate how the stock jagermech has 0 issues with heat, but I prefer the mini-Rifleman variant.

The JagerMech doesn't work by itself. It is one of the best lancemates you can have though. The enemy will do one of two things to a Jager:
1. Ignore it. The Jager then adds damage at range to targets, or picks off the heavily damaged guys left behind.
2. Destroys it. This means the enemy will probably spend a round or two shooting at something far LESS valuable to your force, thus buying you more time to kill their valuable stuff.
JagerMech pilots much prefer choice 1 compared to choice 2...

I've got them showing up quite regularly in games, together with infantry and tanks. But that's mainly because I play games in an ongoing campaign and Planetary Defense Forces tend to have quite a bit more of these things than they do of mechs.

Make it the Mobile Sprint Network. That way you can 'catch someone on MSN'.

I actualy meant the game... I would be more willing to put in time and or money on a game if I knew it had more going on and a story arc that was actualy going somewhere?

You mean all the books they never really stopped producing? They have advanced the timeline up to the late 3070's, and already have Tech Readout 3085 out for some of "what is to come."
That doesn't include the Handbooks (updates of the old Field Manuals), other Tech Readouts, PDF only releases, sourcebooks, and the additional Core books. I'd guess at least 20 NON-PDF books have come out in the last four years or so. Add in PDFs and it is closer to 50+.
Yeah. The game is still supported, and is in better long term shape than it has been in a long time. Come on back. We don't judge.

I want to write a battletech/mechwarrior campaign whereby each player has a certain amount of money and or points to start up a territory there will be a star map and each player will start with a system with some randomly rolled planets for resorces it's then a game of galactic domination I know nothing about the system so this should be a larf.
I'd really appreciate any thought's comments critisisums... and if you could point me to where this should have been posted in the first place?
