The rules are much more streamlined than 40K. For example, saving rolls for infantry are removed in favor of a hitpoints/wounds system, and thanks to an orders system that functions like a 40K morale check, units can perform more than one move or firing action per turn with the presence of a nearby Command/ HQ unit. "Ballistic skill" stat is nonexistant, and "To-wound" rolls are removed from infantry and replaced by a 'hit by cover type' system, where units in the open are hit on 4-6, units in soft/partial cover are hit on 5-6, and and units in hardpoints are hit on a 6. And it works with everything from 2mm to 28mm. I'm just waiting for my 15mm stuff to show up, and then I'm jumping right in.
Definitely agree. We've been playing Future war Commander which is basically the same game with a different era. I'm still not sold on it being a great system for 28mm (though there are skirmish rules included) but we've been playing good sized 10mm games and loving it.
The "Commander" series of games is based on GW's Epic mechanics, which is based around a very effective command system that works quickly but gives a nice amount of chance to your games in that some units sometimes outperform in exciting ways.

I'm going to rephrase my answer.
I have been poking my nose into numerous systems.
Best ones so far were Dr Who, Star Mogul, Pulp City, and an !@# tone of others.
I recommend these skermish games on the merit of not having to pay alot to get alot. My favorite has to be the USX: Modern Heros. I like them the best based solely on Cthuhlu miniatures, and the quality of the range.

The Dr Who rules and stuff is almost completly free.

Theres a really cool Pulp game from Pulpfigures called Rugged Adventures. This is only a taste, based on looking theres a bunch of source material and plenty of minis ranges for a good price. along with rattraps .45 cal adventures with the Gargoyal, and the Links between them and others, theres another cool one I found called Golgo Island, that really is a riot and funny stuff. as for serious, its pure Kitch and does a great job laughing at itself. They had a couple of others in there as well, and the cost to play didn't hurt either.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

I just want to say that Grot 6 is an Edit Ninja (although, a really helpful Edit Ninja), since I was just about to quote his post and ask some questions, but now I need to ask something else entirely.
Does Pulp City have any options for customizing heroes/villains, or is it mostly just named figures and generic grunts?

.....I don't mean this in a bad way at all, but I hate you . I had NO CLUE that Battletech had came back from the void that is FASA's bankruptcy (and i dnt mean that clicky-tech crap)...I just wish there were people at the LHS that played...I may still sell off a sealed Battlewagon or two to get that boxed set. I remember playing the Mechwarrior Rpg back in early High School. I got so engrossed in the game's fictions, I lived and breathed the stuff. I could tell you how many armor points and the weapons load out of virtually any Heavy to Assault Inner Sphere mech there was....
Thank you sir, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You've made the pimpled little geek in me very happy this day!

Pulp city is both.
They have thier basic standard issue heros and villians, then run of the mill Grunts, then they have the BOOM system. Thats basicly, you pick up a bunch of guys, make up some riules for them, and then pop them into the game. You can make up your own heros and villaisn as well, seeing as they have plenty of options for it. Its a fun game, and doesn't take long to play. You also don't need any more then a couple of guys to play it. It plays funky, and the rules for your guys super powers have SOME issues, but not too many. They interact with the fans and theres plenty of online support as well.
I'm working on my own figs, and trying to make the cards up for them myself, but the process is kinda hard for the luddite in me, so I just end up writing them on 3X 5 cards, and going up and down 1 or two points, while using the extensive powers list for the guys powers.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that. I glanced through the online version of the rules that they make available, saw the one video on Board Game Geek where the guy had the nice cards, and wanted to double check before ordering the book and getting some models ready to play.

If you're looking into Pulp City, I might also suggest checking out the SuperSystem rules (3rd edition). I've played it since first edition, and it's a fun superhero ttg with a very customizable hero/villain creation system built right in. The rules can be found at
http://www.sabersedge.com/ or
http://www.wargamedownloads.com
The rules are $12.49 Canadian at Saber's Edge, and you can find a free pdf of all the current Superfigs models.

I will put in (yet another) second for Warmachine/Hordes. As said it has a steep learning curve to be competitive against experienced players, but if you and your brother are playing you will both be there so not as brutal. Rules are fairly easy to learn and get playing, then comes the learning what your chosen army can do (which I am still discovering things). Then learning other armies tricks to watch for/counter. On of the guys I play with put it perfectly, Warhammer 40K is like checkers, Warmachine is more like chess.
