Its not just dakka, its people.
A lot of people are just incapable of civility I think, unfettered anonymity makes it even easier. But that's not to say I haven't had ignorant bs spewed in my face before.

The irony in this post is delightful.
The point I was trying to make, is that I've had plenty of people argue straight nonsense/hypocritical/ignorant positions to my face, so its not just the internet. My choice of wording was poor, and I have corrected it.

I'm not aware of the performance in question, as I don't actually listen to Gaga. I only had that lyric in my head because HBO has been pimping her upcoming concert special with a short video of her and backup singers doing an acapella version, and I've seen it twice.

Some people on this forum are looking to be offended. But I think it's mostly just because it's the internet, and therefor you have anonymity... and so does everyone else. this causes lots of problems.
But I don't think we actually hate eachother.

The biggest cause, IMHO, is that you don't know who you're arguing against... It could be a scrawny little 8 year old, or that guy at the gym... you know, the huge one... And they really can't do anything but yell back at you.

All in all I've found people to be helpful and friendly on this site and I've had no problems whatsoever. But as a rule of thumb, I tend to stay clear of political discussion to avoid arguements as my views would upset people and I don't want that. As far as I'm concerned, Dakka is a place for army lists, drooling over great miniatures, advice on painting, and banal discussion on which is the best Stars Wars film. Long may that continue.
