Congrats!

Another mission, the powers have called me away. Another chance to carry the colours again. My motivation, an oath I've sworn to defend. To win the honour of coming back home again.

That sounds like maybe another Marshall's run.

Oh yeah, the prices we've seen for flowers so far have been outrageous. Fortunately Jess seems to want a fairly minimal approach with flowers, because they are stupidly expensive.

Invitations are very expensive also. I found a place online though that printed ours and then we assembled them for about a third of the cost. We got lots of compliments on them, they were very fancy. I swore if I had to wrap another bow in my life I was gonna kill someone.

Jess's sister is a scrapbooker, and she's volunteered to do the invites. I think this means at some point I'm going to be stuck gluing bows on or something, but it's a nice saving.

I'm not suggesting being a miser, we had a nice budget, I just maximized! Before my war on the budget we didn't have a live band and the bar was open for beer and cash for Liq. After, we had a nice band, a DJ, and a fully stocked open bar! We ended up with nicer food too.

Wow, you covered spirits as well? That would have been awesome, how much Johnny Walker did the guests get through?

Well, when you own a bar you can get a decent discount! I just had to find a hall that would let us bring our own. Didn't go through too much walker, Jameson and Bushmills however........
Sounds like you are starting to use your talent pool. I was actually amazed at how much I got out of my friends and family. My brother was dating a chef at the time, she made our cake for $200, which was about a quarter of what we were being quoted.

Our reception started at about 1:00 so we were able to make it more of a brunch buffet with a omelet bar, and a couple carving stations for prime rib, ham and such. Everyone loved it and it cut our food bill by half!

We got married a second time in India for her family. I don't even want to get into the cost of that 7 Day wedding!

The only thing worse than Indian weddings are Chinese weddings.

Sounds like you had a lot more talent at your disposal. We did a back of the envelope costing on the weekend... yeegads.

Marvellous!

Ours is going to be pretty straight, though the future Mrs sebster's mother is Italian, so there'll be Italian touches in there. I've recently learned what a bonboniere is...

I was the best man at a close friend's wedding last year, and while helping her plan (the groom needed a best man due to being from Afghanistan) it quickly became apparent that no one she knew had any skills that were significant to a marriage ceremony.

When all your friends are either academics, or banking professionals there isn't much to work with; unless presenting a conference paper can acceptably replace live music.

As a suggestion, I know you work at a university, it may be a good idea to look around for campus bands, photographers, designers, etc. Hell, just hit up the whole art department, some of the professors are likely to have good connections.

Italian Wedding Soup is quite tasty, this is a plus.

All I've got are underachieving nerds. All the help is coming from her friends and my extended family.

The photographer does actually do a lot of work for the uni, though that was a coincidence. Good thought about the bands, though, I will definitely follow that up. Cheers mate.

I'll ask about it, though the meal is getting catered by the venue, maybe I can try and score some for the engagement party.
