Yes, an ocean world would be valuable for that and for its various foodstuff exports.

I was always under the impression that the Imperium had the tech to produce its own water supply, there's no way a Hive World could have enough water to sustain its population and at the same time we've never heard of any agri-world equivalents to water for importing.

Hive Worlds have other methods of getting water.
As well as the fact that many process the dead for... materials...

Well no but people have water in them.
They also have a lot of other things that humans can use...
Makes sense when you have a population that large, unless there is a nasty disease going round.

Yeah, it makes sense once you get away from the cultural morals we have. Eat or otherwise use your dead when they are stacking up like cordwood.

Still a bit creepy, though.

It tastes distinctly like something but you can't tell what it is, and frankly most people are glad for it.

Pork. Human flesh is incredibly similar to pork. Its the primary reason we use pig carcasses to understand how fire/explosions/bullets affect soft tissue. Of course, in the ideal scenario you have a cadaver to experiment with but SOME people take umbrage with that idea.

Isn't it theorized that there is a obscene quantity of water in the Oort Cloud? Something on the order of 5 times the total volume of Earth? If that is the case than all the water needed could be collected in the outer areas of star systems by the most lowly of servitors. It would also call in to question some of the dry Terra fluff.

That would only cover Terra's needs though, and it isn't renewable.

On the question of Human flesh. It is reputed to be very bitter (cant remember where i heard this though and its going to annoy me now, Damn)

I wrote "star systems" rather than "the solar system". I was hoping to imply that a significant fraction of star systems could have Oort Cloud equivalents.

I missed that sorry, but then extrapolation that there would be equivalent Oort Clouds in other Solar systems is a stretch too far for me regardless, i mean, its theoretical in OUR solar system (capitalising for emphasis not tone). Also, its 38,000 years into the future, i have a feeling things like this would be well ad truly used up if they were real.
I missed a bit onto my last post as well, i know it isnt fluffy for anyone to be 'green' in 40k, but everything would have to be recycled to sustain continuing life on quite a few planets (as well as importing from other planets of cors).

Water itself is always is a renewable resource. When "used" it isn't lost and is rarely converted, it just needs to be recollected and purified.

The only time this is an exception is when you turn water into oxygen and hydrogen, or similar reactions, but our bodies don't do that.

Yes true, but i meant that there would be a finite amount of pure, easy-to-access water in the Oort cloud (or similar stellar bodies).
I did mention recycling being more important as well. Water can still be 'lost', especially if it removed from the water cycle of a planet (for example).

Do space marines need to drink water? I think they could probably survive drinking their own urine.

Maybe thats how all human populations survive - recycling urine and whenever a new water source is found like a river they can all restock their 'fresh' syupplies.

Much of the body's liquid is lost through general humidity when breathing and off of the skin. Urination seems impressive, but the loss of water through evaporation happens every second of the day.

You can get a surprising amount of water back from waste products before it leaves the body, providing you have been eating healthily anyway.

You're a good man, sir.

Anyway, I would assume a mixture of combining hydrogen and oxygen into water and desalinization on a massive scale.

Apart from just picking mold off the hive-wall and eating it, the lowest grade of foodstuff in the Imperium are "corpse starch rations".

These are made from the bodies and bones of the dead, pressed into a pale, granola-like bar and then consumed when necessary (or, in some dire cases, daily).

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Knowing about the Imperium's technology level, they probably have water syntetization devices and such.
