Right, but I didn't think that the voting districts got changed unless a district lost it's minimal population amount to be considered a voting district.

Gerrymandering is creating a congressional district in your favor (if you're a congressman) so that you have a better chance of staying in office. This proposition is just saying "Let the electoral votes be appointed to each district instead of winner takes all."
Because gerrymandering will effect the electoral vote even more with this system. Automatically Appended Next Post: DickBandit wrote:Right, but I didn't think that the voting districts got changed unless a district lost it's minimal population amount to be considered a voting district.
Voting districts get changed any time the party in power can get away with it, essentially. For example:

In Texas, Republicans hold basically a 2:1 majority in representatives, despite the fact that in presidential elections it's closer to a 60/40 lead. Thus the power of politically-biased redistricting-- and now with this proposal the gerrymandering becomes even more powerful, so that the repugs in power can gain even MORE power despite not having more votes. I loathe Texas politics.

Conservatives are actually known to be more politically active in state and local elections than liberals. Presidential elections just draw more attention overall as well. Just remember that this is going to go both ways. Texas is probably a lost cause (sorry) but some other states in the south are gonna see their votes broken up a bit I think if this catches on.
yeah, gerrymandering is a bigger problem in the new proposed system. Plus candidates will be less likely to engage states at large. Right now they only pay attention to the battleground areas mostly. Now the battlegrounds just got more local and a little tinier in area.
