I don't mind the win/lose of Warmahordes, actually I prefer it. When I lose I know exactly what I did wrong or what I should have done differently. Where as 40K so many things are up in the air because of dice rolls.

Until Grissel makes 3 Tough Rolls....

I love Warmachine's resource allocation/risk management system. The ability to base single, meaningful decisions on a bell curve (2d6 vs 1d6) and 'cheat' your odds simply makes for greater depth of a game.

One thing about Warmachine is that if you buy a full unit and goodies and paint it then you have that unit to use. In 40K you have to keep modifying it or have extra models in order to fill out the best wargear choices.

For example, I bought a full unit of bane thralls, UA and Tartarus and painted them all up. I now have all the options I could possibly want when it comes to using them.

For a space marine squad you need to have 10 guys, but you also need to take into account wargear and weapons. So maybe a SGT with a powerfist and another with a combi weapon. You probably want the option of a missle launcher, lascannon or another heavy. For special weapon do you want melta, plasma or flamer? So you either need to have a "unit" of 15+ guys, magnetize them, or be willing to continually convert their weapons depending on what is the Flavor of the Week. Oh, and don't forget that Razor/Rhino (with multiple weapon/wargear options) to go with them.

Anyways, to get into and start playing WM is alot cheaper. The cheap rulebook and starter boxes are obvious winners here. But once you get in the ability to spend alot of money quickly is about the same as 40K. Dropping a few hundred bucks is easy in either game. The prices unit to unit are comparable. A heavy warjack is about the same as a tank. A unit in one game is about the same as in the other game. If anything the WM stuff may be a bit more expensive on a model by model basis, but you need less models to play (competitively or not) and the models tend to be alot better quality and better looking.

Was wondering

Seeing this new "kit" thing for Warjacks.

Doesn't it make the most expensive part of Warmachines, far cheaper than the 40k counterpart (tank)?

Just buy some models, get some magnets, and now all you need is a much smaller amount of money for upgrade kits that you magnatize.

You can do the same thing with the 40K tanks. I had razorbacks that could become rhinos (easy). But with the Rhino chassis you can have a pred, rhino, razorback all the same body. Could be a whirlwind or that other tank, too.

My Falcons and prisms were all magentized so I could switch out the weapons. And with the plastic Fire Prism you could magnetize that as well I believe.

But again, you usually need fewer warjacks than you need tanks. Usually you will have two heavies at most, whereas a 40K army would probably have 2-3+. My marines had 5 and my eldar ran with 6.

Units are generally the most expensive part of Warmachine/Hordes; a warjack or warbeast tops out in the $50-$60 area for all-metal characters with an average closer to $30 for the plastic kits.

Full units plus unit attachment usually runs around $80-$100 for 12 models.

But yes, there's definitely a cost savings associated with being able to buy 1 generic kit and have the options to field 3-4 warjacks with that one kit.
