Those are some pretty sick looking necrons man! Keep up the good work. I've gotta say, I'm liking the new look, and tempted into starting a small army or task force. I'm subscribing, and don't hate me if I look here from time to time for inspiration. Great work.

Well, you're supposed to look at them, that's why I posted them! If you decide to do your own, drop a link so I can check them out and steal your ideas get some inspiration of my own.

The latter. I generally make my list up on the fly right before a game. I'm neither a competitive nor actually a very good player. Here is my last 2 lists. It was on Vassal so that's the reference to the base colors, but I have only been using models I actually own for practice. Some of the spacing is weird because the points values were in these originally.

HQ: Necron Overlord (light blue base)
Necron Overlord with a res orb, a tachyon arrow, mindshackle scarabs

NOSLOT: Royal Court

Necron Lord (orange base)
Necron Lord with a warscythe, mindshackle scarabs and a Res Orb

cryptek with voltaic staff (lime base)
Crytek upgraded to Harbringer of the Storm with Voltaic Staff and lightning field

Cryptek with Eldritch Lance (purple base)
Cryptek upgraded to Harbringer of Destruction with Eldritch Lance

Troop 1: Necron Warriors

5 warriors and an additonal 15 warriors with Gauss Flayers

Troop 2: Necron Warriors

5 warriors and an additonal 15 warriors (with Gauss Flayers

Fast Attack 1: Necron Destroyers

1 Destroyer and 4 additional destroyers. 3 have heavy gauss cannon

Fast Attack 2: Canoptek Scarabs

3 scarab bases with 7 additional bases

Elite 1: Deathmarks (red bases)

5 Deathmarks with 3 additional Deathmarks

Elite 2: Deathmarks (dark brown bases)

5 Deathmarks with 3 additional Deathmarks

I hadn't yet had that much experience with these yet, and I wound up fighting demons. It would have been better to have done the warriors in smaller but more numerous squads. i wound up tying.

My other most recent list was

Necrons - Lychguards & Praetorians (1500)

HQ: Necron Overlord
1 Necron Overlord with a Warscythe. Also has mindshackle scarabs, gauntlet of fire and res orb

NOSLOT: Royal Court

1 Necron Lord (light blue base) with res orb, mindshackle scarabs, warscythe, gauntlet of fire

Troop1: Necron Warriors
5 warriors + 5 warriors armed with gauss flayers

Troop2:Necron Immortals
5 immortals + 5 immortals armed with Tesla Carbines

Elite1: Triarch Praetorians (orange bases)
5 Praetorians with 5 additional praetorians. Armed with Rods of Covenant

Elite 2: Lychguards (light blue bases)
5 lychguard with 4 additional lychguard. Armed with warscythes.

Heavy Support: Tomb Stalker
1 Tomb Stalker

This one went up against Grey Knights and we were very evenly matched, but also tied. at the end of the game there were only around 5 models left on the board. I really like the Tomb Stalker - I don't think it's ever failed to make it's points back yet.

Ooh! Ooh! Mr Peevely-sorry, Quze! I have an idea for your Crypteks.

For the head of his staff, you could have 3 of those transluscent green tubes below a claw-like tip with a glowing orb in the centre, like Saruman's staff.

I know, that was really badly explained. Sorry.

It's OK, I googled it. It looks pretty neat, and I haven't decided on a topper for my Cryptek staves yet - will see if I can pull it off.

I'm using the experimental rules from FW's site. Have rules been published yet for it? It's the only I4 unit I have so I'm sorta hoping not.

--------------------

So, here are some quick updates. I took most of these a work with my cell's camera, so, sorry about the poor quality but I think they'll suffice.

Praetorian bodies:

I went with the standard color scheme, as you can see.

Praetorian heads:

I found the Praetorian heads to be much less offensive than the Lychguard heads, so I stuck with them as-is.

Also, started work on the Rods of Covenant:

-----

I also made some progress on the electronic front. As I mentioned in the first post, it was always intended that I'd add some electronics to these kits. I had presumed that I'd only add them to the vehicles and larger models, but with the thicker bodies of the Newcrowns, I decided to try adding them to some infantry as well. I wound up cutting off a leg, and drilling it out with a pin vise. I ran a wire up the leg, through the hips, and from there it was pretty easy. Here is my soon-to-be Cryptek, wired up:

and testing out some SMD LED's:

So far as making pulsing LED's, that's up and down. After getting the programming nailed down for the ATtiny, we're trying to get the PCB's etched with mixed results. The first attempts have not gone so hot. We're printing out the schematics with a laser printer, ironing them onto some copper clad board, and then soaking them. The actual transfers have gone poorly - trying magazine sheets now. I should probably spring for some proper pcb transfer paper but it's sort of spendy when I think we can make the homebrew method eventually work.

Doing some more work on the electronics on Friday.

I did already, actually They are from the DE Kabalite Warrior guns.

Sure, the heads are made with blades that I am pretty sure go on rifles from the DE Kabalite Warrior set. You can see them here, and that's where I bought them (I think from that exact seller, actually).

Pin vise, same one I use for pinning models. I checked ebay for styles, and these are the three kinds I've owned:

This style costs more, but is a lot better - I think $15 is a little high though, pretty sure I got it elsewhere for less. This is my go-to vise. It will not hold 1/8th bits, but I use my dremel for that anyway.

The other kind I own and see a lot is this one. It sometimes comes with a hex end, sometimes double sided (I own both), usually a lot cheaper: I could not recommend these styles at all. Doesn't seem to grip very well. It will hold 1/8th bits but you probably will have a hard time drilling them anyway due to the poor grip and/or bit slippage. Get the other one instead.

Shop around, I just grabbed the first two links on ebay that illustrated examples of what I meant. Not my auctions, I don't know the sellers, your mileage may vary.

The absolute worst one I owned was the GWS one. The knurling on the grip is way too smooth, making it impossible to get a good grip on. The third time I used it the goddamn thing just broke right in the middle. Total disappointment.

EDIT: wait no, it isn't in IA11, what am I thinking.. It's in IA Apoc 2nd Edition... I pretty sure, anyway...

OK, I got the 10 Praetorians done, and have posted a showcase thread showing them off.

I've had about enough Necron Infantry for a while. I'm going to hold off on my Overlord\Crypteks for the moment until I feel like I can do a good job, instead of just "getting them done". So, my current focus will be the Command\Annihilation Barge followed by my Ghost\Doomsday Ark. At that point, I'm hoping for some wave 3 Triarch Stalkers, wraiths, spyders, stuff like that (hopefully not finecast).

Awesome! Can't wait to see how you do the barge. I'm actually working on mine, just getting down a simple paint job similar to the one on the box.

OK, I got some more stuff done, all electronics. No painting.

---------------------------------
Destroyer Lord
---------------------------------

Ok, so technically not a Newcron, nonetheless I'm building one as part of this set. Right now I have 3 destroyers which I painted quite poorly. I'd like to have them redone, so I might strip them. However, I am exceedingly averse to taking finished models and transforming them into unfinished models - "Your job is to turn red to black, not the other way") - so I am going to try and get 3 done before I strip the other 3. All of the new 3 will be multipurpose - the weapons will be swappable to convert between heavy destroyers, regular destroyers, and one lord. Also, I wanted to try using SMD LED's to light up the vents on the lord. I took these with my cell, so sorry about the poor quality. Here we go:

I wired up the LED's with wrapping wire, which meant I needed to scrape the silver coating off the ends. What a pain in the ass that was. I really need to find some insulated 30AWG wire that's not coated it anything before doing something like this again.

Here is the battery holder, which holds a single CR1220 battery. I decided I didn't need an on-off switch, just removing the battery is probably adequate. I had to cut off the "tail" to fit it in, but I added the tail back after the battery cover was in place.

Here's a look with the lights dimmed and the battery in. Definitely not too happy with the brightness on these LED's, but they'll do. I intend to try filling the vents with clear resin and see if that makes it look cooler.

One last shot. The tail has since been glued back into place.

---------------------------------
Command Barge
---------------------------------

I was unhappy with the brightness of the previous LED's (not so happy I'm unsoldering a single one, mind you) that I switched to a different type for the next job. I also had much more room to work with, so I used some easier to work with wire.

Lights in the vents. Note the different SMD LED type.

And, with the battery attached - much brighter.

Here are the channels I cut to allow the wiring to travel up the spine.

Fully wired.

With battery.

Here's where I cut to seat the battery holder.

And, in place.

After doing so, though, I realized I might be better off without the battery holder: the recess in the center is the perfect size for the CR1220 batteries. If I omit the holder, then not only do I not have to disguise it, but I can also use 2 batteries and crank the brightness, assuming the LED's will take that much voltage:

So that's what I got so far. I have primed all of the above since I'll be solving that last problem without any real further conversion.

Updates sometime this weekend, maybe.

Ooh, nice glowy effects! It is that sort of sickly green glow characteristic to the Necrons. Looking forward to the finished product for the barge.

Awesomesauce! Looking good. Looks way to complex for my puny brain, but seeing as I play Tyranids...Not really a problem.

By the way, have you considered luminous paint? That might work quite well for some things where a more subtle glow is needed, like hieroglyphics.
