Signs like these existed well before the 9/11 attacks. Oh and no fething jokes we take this stuff seriously, one time I told a "yo mama" joke and man that was a rough twenty minutes.

I have to wonder: In the history of aircraft hijacking/bombing, how many recorded incidences are there where the hijacker/bomber stood at the check-in and made humourous quips about bombs? Or wore a T-shirt saying "BOMB"?

Forgive my innocence, but I can only assume that the security people are working from some kind of precedent? It would be a bit silly otherwise...

First off. Seperate a insurgent and terrorist. They're two different animals. Majority of insurgents encounter from extremist groups are quite illeterate...non educated..well....few choice words from the Koran will get them commit to the fight on a Jihad. Except for winter and everyone knows its freaking fething balls numbing cold. A terrorist is one determined to complete a mission and knows he/she probaly not coming back and is willing to use a "WMD" (like a big ass bomb) to achieve their goals by inflicting huge amount causualties.

I agree to a point. Yes, pull her from line and check it, as it is a bit thick, OBVIOUSLY its not a sewn on gun image, but you can tell REAL fast that its nothing more then a design. That check should of taken all of 1 minute, then send her on her way, no harm done. Seriously, TSA is so beyond fethed up

I remember a DAKKAnaut telling a story on her last yearish? Where he was boarding a plane with his minis, and they werent going to let his minis on the plane because they had "guns" Yes, Im not kidding, minis....with guns.....terrifying

You're looking at it in the context of the current goings on in Iraq, etc.

Historically, terrorism is a technique of violence against civilian populations, designed to create fear and thereby effect political will. The suicide bomb technique is a fairly recent idea, first employed by the Tamil Tigers. The current northern Irish terrorists do not use it and are not likely to.

Insurgency is more properly the deployment of irregular forces in a quasi-military campaign, such as the partisan war in the occupied Soviet Union in WW2.

Obviously there may be overlaps between insurgency and terrorism. There may also be overlaps between insurgents and regular forces.

She opted out of the scanner, and a stated goal of the TSA is to make it so uncomfortable to get a manual screening that nobody wants to opt out anymore.

Living in the caves is a refernce to the insurgents in Afghanistan. Granted they're trigger pullers but they either go home during the winter or hold up in a cave. Of course you have the ones that will occasionaly pop off a shot or plant a IED so they can be part of "the cause" The one financing a bomb hit though does not live in a cave. The financer needs to ensure he is getting his money worth that ranges from IEDs, VBIEDs and suicide bombers.

Without knowing the entire context of the situation at large, any number of reasons. There was a case within the past few years where a man of Asian descent smuggling drugs was wearing a movie quality disguise rendering himself as an elderly woman. He played the part fairly well too, and it wasn't until he was x-rayed that they found something amiss.

Anyways, just because someone's elderly doesn't mean they can't be a threat...if they so choose to be.

tsa does weird things sometimes.... they once arrested a guy for carrying a hairdryer in his belt (he was doing some children-movie), and they life-banned a guy from all american airports because his friend made a joke about him carrying a bomb..... and hes still banned, even thou his friend admitted it was a joke. Once youre on the list of possible terrorist, you cant get off. Thats the way they programmed it to stop people from deleting themselve from it. Sheesh.

Since most people in this country seem to equate "We've been hijacked" to "We gonna get rammed into a building!" since 2001? We'd probably see a hundred+ people rush her, stomp her half to death and chuck her out the door at 14,000 feet.

Post 2011 that actually occurred on at least one Southwest flight. He was "restrained" until he died.

Oh so the guy who didn't have a passport, that borded a plane went to the lavatory and ignited his underwear, I guess you could say the TSA "managed" to find the bomb after he was handed over by the passengers of the plane.
I guess a that point the ball cupping was for pleasure though.

Amsterdam, and the TSA didnt screen him. Its ridiculous to blame them (I dont) but you can't claim they found it either.

If we make a list of TSAs security successes in one column and failures in the other you have one success: deterrence and a long list of failures.

Actually ever read the job opening for a TSA agent? I had a good chuckle on it. When I go through airports in uniform (ACU) they wave me by the xray portion. I do see the look of disgust on other travelers face though at the TSA agent for doing it though. Oveall....quite a few TSA agents are....lacking in common sense and/or suffering from a power trip

Exactly, I dunno who the TSA hires that does this kind of thing but that must be one interesting help wanted ad...

A few years back me and my family were flying up to Iowa to see other family and my stepbrother was almost detained for trying to bring his PS3...I gak you not, they apparently thought it could hold some sort of bomb in it and had to pass it through the scanner about five times before they were satisfied...

It would be helpful had they actually caught anyone.

Post 2001 they forced everyone to go through claerance that was entering an airport.

It's also surprising the lack of foresight someone has. Suppose I show up with a set of spares to dress like a janitor. They have maintenance closets everywhere, so what's to stop me from mixing a few chemicals obtained from there? I'm surprised that instead of going to the pro's (israel), over-expensive systems that fail to stop actual terrorists are installed for sake of the fact that someone's connected and stands to gain a fair bit if coin for implementing machines.
