Pages do fall out the bible, it's just that you don't hear about it across these forums.

Also, the reason why they don't spiral bind them from the start is that it's still much cheaper to take a stack of pages, have them machine cut down to size, then have another machine slap glue onto one side, then have a third machine slap that into a cover. That's very cheap to do.

Remember that these were made to be cheap, and free. Any additional cost to make them would be pointless.

Seems that BF went too cheap on this one.

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all" Mario Savio

Just to answer a couple of points. First, if the book is opened up to lay so that you don't have to keep two hands on it all the time such as when using it to check the rules while gaming the pages DO come out. I have not had this happen with other manufacturers mini rulebooks. This leads on the second point. Spending a little more money to get a better binding so it lays flat is worthwhile. NO one goes out of their way to produce a 297 page booklet that will fall out apart. That would be daft. I doubt that BF intentionally set out to do that!
I would have glady paid a fiver to get this book in a better quality. I really do not want to have to go and get it bound. And remember, this is the same booklet they are giving to those who produce a hardback v2 book. I would feel insulted to be offered this one for free and have it fall apart if I had got the v2 hardback and gone to a store to get my free v2 booklet. The fact I got it "free" with a purchase just makes the problem with the binder more bearable.

What the hell were you doing in that 15minutes? Jumping on it?

I have had one book fall apart on me in 25 years and that was the original RT hardback which I got 24 years ago.

Okay so I read up to Page 159 and then I saw the binding start to crack apart. No pages have fallen out yet but now I read it like I read my comic books - partially open.

You just jinxed yourself.

I've had two pages come loose. The only other Battlefront book that I've had issues with is Fortress Europe.

My copy of that is solid as a rock. My V3 hasn't died yet, but then it hasn't been used as a reference yet, only browsed once or twice.

Well, for rite now no problems with mine, but i am careful with it.I do not put extra strss on the binding, like forcing it to lay flat.I have read mine twice and have used it for a couple of games. The other copies i obtained for my other players seems to be doing fine.

I don't understand all of the issues you guys are having with the rule book. I've put mine through hell, and the binding is still fine. Maybe I just lucked out.

Just got my mini rulebook today from the Warstore. I am impressed with the size, I knew it would be large, but it is more than two times thicker than the 2nd edition mini rulebook!

On the binding, I have had no problem, but I have been careful to only half open the book when reading it. I would not suggest forcing it open all the way, as it seems like it would definitely lose pages that way.

Overall, I like the content of the book, but the binding definitely seems sub-par, and I am likely going to have it spiral bound like most other people because of this.

Same. Damn.

I would have gotten it bound away, just so I could lay it on a table easily enough, but, yeah. Free blister.

To be honest, I'm fine with paying with my own money to get this spiral bound.

There was nothing entitling me to getting a free V3 rulebook anyway other than them putting it out.

What I'm really more upset about is battlefront's complete silence on updating the older hardcover compilation books that are not old at all, and already cover a vast majority of the war.

If they didn't update these expensive books, then my local store and friends would basically be stuck with out of date books that they had bought only recently.

I had no problems paying my own money, and made that clear in my email to BF. The book was free, and a spiral bound book is much easier to use at the table.

What I do have is the shoddy nature of their bindings in general. Of the six soft bound books I owned that were not mini rule books, 4 have let go of pages with Cobra and FE being still good. wait, I have 7 sb books, but have only owned Cassino for less than a month.

My copy of North Africa is good, but my copy of Eastern Front has its days numbered. Haven't picked up GW yet and that is primarily because of the 4 friends that I know that have the book, 2 of them have lost pages.

I mentioned this in my email and thier reply was "we don't see a failure rate that would indicate to us that we need to change our practice".

Grey Wolf? That's surprising. You're the first person I've heard from that's reported binding problems with it. I haven't seen a single complaint on the official forums about the binding on Grey Wolf or Red Bear, and people there typically have no problem mentioning that the binding is giving out on their books.

As for the Out of Date issue that others are mentioning...

Grey Wolf and Red Bear are fully V3 compatible. I expect Battlefront to release update information for the other books shortly after the hardbound version of V3 goes on sale, but that's just guesswork on my part.

I have had my Grey Wolf book for 2 months now and since I am building a Panzekompanie, that section is threatening to come apart as I can already see down to the bindings. My observation of the Grey Wolf binding is it is the sewn type binding and if it comes apart, it would come out in sections where the stich goes through and not by the page like the mini rulebook. The mini rulebook binging is a thermal bind with glue and once the glue fails, the book comes apart by the page.

I thought the idea was that you sent them a scan of the receipt for having the book rebound and they gave you credit for a blister?

I ordered some scenery. FoW interests me, even if I'm unlikely to find time to play it this decade.

I took it to Kinkos (well, FedEx now that they bought Kinkos) and said "can you spiral bind this and laminate the covers?" 15 minutes and $10 later I had mine spiral bound.

Find a document copying/printing chain and they can usually do it for a small fee. In the US Fedex/Kinkos is one of the bigger ones that does it. Don't know if they have a presence as Kinkos in Canada, though.

I am happily pleased to report that my book is still intact, even after 2 full league days with the book sitting upside and open next to me at the table. I am keeping an eye on it though...first look at pages coming out and spiral binding it is. Might spiral bind it anyway since the spirals are good for convenience and keeping a specific page open in the book.
