The NIB components...


(2 Emplacements, 2 Trenches, 1 bunker.)

I'll be digging into these as soon as I reconstitute my painting area.

I've De-sprued the Kits and am going to be assembling and painting em shortly...

Review... Not to impressed with the details TBH, there are some basic "physics" no nos in the design of details in the kits (boxed into solid area melding of objects in badly thought out ways etc, but the overall design and fit seems pretty good. They are only wide enough for terminator bases (other than the "emplacement" sections.) the "bunker" is nice looking but was packed with no instructions, all the pieces fit together fairly well but I have not really looked at gaps, I'll talk about those as and when they arise.

what do you mean by "stippling errors" ?

there are some white /light grey patches that look a bit out of place... maybe a generous aplication of wash will help with that...

I went back and fixed em. Thanks for the catch Vik. It's now living in the display cabinet of my club. I'll get Pics of it with the rest of the set once I've finished everything.

Should be "finished" just letting the last wash dry on the various pieces. I'll get a pic up of things sometime tomorrow.

The scratchbuild is actually related to what Brian dropped off. Also got a bit more done on that, Will likewise get pics up at some point tomorrow...

how many sets does this build include by the way? looks more than just one to me...

also... walls look better from the inside than the outside...and i can´t say why...but there is something lacking for me... looks still unfinished...

One of each entrenchment set (one "left" trench, one "right" trench)
one emplacement set
one bunker

It looks unfinished because its modeled that way... no seriously any more detailed shading makes it look worse... get a close up look at a set if you can. there are what in FPS games are referred to as "clipping errors" EVERYWHERE. Boxes in walls. Skulls where a single skull stretches to infinity etc... Ease of "assembly" 4 of 5, to 5 of 5 depending. (the bunker is the 4), Replicated tessellated details everywhere. the SAME EXACT BODY was used on no fewer than two points on Each "straight "section and once on the "T" emplacements and twice on the "bunker" the longer you look the more odd things you will find. It looks an awful lot like there was a highly detailed and half assed resin master created, that was then vacuformed, then the vacuform was turned into the production mold.

I would strongly recommend another trench terrain piece as a "pre fab" purchase. as a fully assembled and cohesively painted piece it works, but it will never be "pretty". The Ageius lines are an example of the right way to do it, the wall of martyrs... not so much.

Yeah... next time (if there is one, I'll charge more than $40 to do it... Ugh kits like that kill your soul...

That's badass Galorn! I especially like the brasswork!

p.s. I tried the washes you sent me. Still drying, but my initial results were very, very thin and light, but clearly grey. I'd like to try it on my hardboard bases. It seems like a good concrete wash.

One is a moderate black wash, the other should be a very dark brown . although the brown pigment likes to settle out... not sure why...

LOL, they look that way, but they are both blue-grey, and the blue seems to dry out

I think it's just a low amount of pigment, not a bad thing IMHO.

Did you choose the colour for the walls? The green and grey didn't look quite right to me. Particularly since the green on the dead guardsmen at the base of it was identical to that of the walls (looked weird although that may have been down tot he light in the picture).
Otherwise it looked like a nice job, same with the other pieces although the ruin needed some rubble on the top floor for continuity. If there's rubble along the outside of the wall then there will be some along the inside as well...
Really nice scratch-build though.

Its the lighting... The Guardsman got a light hit of a lighter green. followed by a black wash.

Thanks. I left rubble off the top floor as a playability thing. It looks much better in person.

Sam, did you put in fluorescent lights in your shop? I'd highly recommend the daylight bulbs for them, and then one or two daylight lamps closer up for photography.

The pics were taken in the dining room and yep regular fluorescent screw in light bulbs there.

The shops lighting situation is... less than optimal. (one clamp light and a light fixture blocked by a beam.) The only good lighting really is provided by a set of integrated fluorescent light fixtures built into the rear wall shelving... on the list of things to do once the weather gets a bit better is to remove an old and non functional "automatic" garage door motor system, and install a better lighting system.

The house and the shop area are still in some level of flux as we are going to be doing some reorganizing of the ergonomic layout of a few rooms. (now that my dad is not going to have an OCD fung shui fit.... sigh.) It's just a matter of getting the people and time to do it. also figure out the desired end configuration of things...
