What I'd heard regarding this was not that the model was not included in the ticket price, just simply that you would not get it WITH the ticket this year as you had done.

Instead you'd have a coupon on the ticket which you would take with you to Games Day to pick it up at a special counter. The thought behind this was that there may have previously been some cases of people buying the ticket specifically for the model and then reselling it privately once they'd got it. Maybe they just actually want people to GO to Games Day if they buy their tickets, maybe?

Can I ask where you heard this? I'd certainly like this to be true, it'd take the sting out of not getting the model when you buy your ticket.

Hate to ask, but....when and where is it?
(Yes, I did go look on the GW site, and no, I could only find the US one there....and if it were in the post, I would not have had to go look for it).

I go to a lot of events on a variety of things (tech events, trade events, gaming stuff, nerd cons etc.) some are good some are not.
Regarding cost and the complaints; some people are con/public even people, some are not.
If you don't like the cost don't go. Its a simple equation. Considering the relative cost of this hobby and other adult activities 30 is paltry.

If they have talks with real content, or a chance to ask questions, that alone is easily worth the effort.

Also, regarding why would people buy something there they could get online (fw stuff) is that nothing beats seeing it in person and walking out the door with it.

I travel a lot to the EU on business, and was checking to see when it was as I might be able to fit it into my schedule...

It's on the 23rd of September at the NEC in Birmingham.

edit: correction, not the NIA, the NEC. Got mixed up. It used to be the NIA.

It came up in conversation at my local store when a few of us were discussing the Games Day model and whether or not a few of us who tend to be pretty regular in going on the coach(I've been every year since I got back into the hobby in 2007) were planning on booking again.

Because it was around the time of the switch from metal to Finecast last year, it meant that some of the local store's ticket deliveries ended up having tickets but no models until later, as and when they were cast. In my particular case it meant that I had my ticket but my model did not come until the week afterwards in the next delivery. The point was made that that it wouldn't happen this year because of the whole "coupon for model on ticket" thing, with the suggestion that in previous years they'd had people buy the ticket for the model and then not actually GOING to Games Day, sometimes selling the ticket privately to cover the cost of what is essentially then buying an overpriced mini.

The fact I recall White Dwarf mentioning that you wouldn't be able to get a ticket at the door this year (although that may have started last year but I do recall seeing it), this would theoretically allow for GW to take stock to cover EVERY Games Day ticket plus stock for any Finecast-related replacements, but this is just my own possible take on things. Sure it might be a pain to have to go get the model at Games Day, but at least you're still guaranteed to get one.

Il probably still go, though its not far from me, I do miss the old style games days though, Bring back the discount stall !!
Also, if i think back to the 90s, the mini used to cost extra sometimes, mind you a ticket was nowhere near £30.

I think I remember paying around 15 pounds back in the late nineties and the GD model was extra to the price then. I aslo remember being able to buy a can of coke for about fourty pence in the late nineties. And a tactical squad for eight quid.

I can assure you that the model is definately not included in the ticket price and will only be available to buy at the event.

Unfortunate, but true I'm afraid.

They could sell out Wembley Stadium if that rumour took hold

And you can get to Salute2012 for about 10 and get one free mini with the ticket and you can buy minis from a wide range of manufactures... so yeah!

Well I've never been but considering its in the Excel in London, where I have been for another convention, I can't imagine they compare. It's an nth the size of the NEC.

Edit: no scrap that, I was thinking it was the excel where I went but it was Old Billingsgate Market. Fair one.

I have an excellent idea.
Step 1: Overload internet with negativity so nobody goes to games day.
Step 2: No one is there, I buy all of the exclusive miniatures
Step 3: Demand for the expensive miniature, it sells for a high price, I am the only supplier
Step 4:??????
Step 5: Profit

Okay, maybe not like that exactly....

Nah, brah. All the internet negativity is from the "vocal minority", remember, so there's no shortage of people willing to spend stupid amounts of money on horrible, horrible casts.
