Must reread the book, but i thought that it was "minds" which were recalled from imminent catastrophe - while bodies self-destructed. While NewCrons wanting in FTL drives area, their FTL comms is simply BEST in Galaxy.

Without passion we'd be truly dead.

The "consumed by green fire" thing that the most-damaged of them do in the book seems to be the phase-out, not a self-destruct.

Going on the choice of word "Consume" and it's meaning:

"con·sume:
verb (used with object)
1.
to destroy or expend by use; use up.
2.
to eat or drink up; devour.
3.
to destroy, as by decomposition or burning: Fire consumed the forest.
4.
to spend (money, time, etc.) wastefully.
5.
to absorb; engross: consumed with curiosity."

I think that can be taken as they are self destructing.

I think you're taking it both too literally and not quite understanding what a "phase out" looks like. The necrodermis shell appears to combust amidst a flare of green energy/fire/whatever and disappears. To the human observer, this appears to be "all burned up" when all it's really doing is moving through some tech-magic handwavium dimension to reappear in some Tomb Construct or Monolith.

That it might take that Warrior a long time to return to battle (because either its destination is too far away or whatever) may lead the humans to think that it was destroyed... well, kinda the horror movie cliche. If you don't see a body...

Screw that, man. The Necrons die. Because then I can have a little bit more hope for the glorious Imperium of Man. Though it has been said that the Necrons were created in order to break the whole damn game.

I'm hoping the Necrons have that whole cyberman thing going on... where if they regained emotions they would all blow up simultaneously...

Then we wouldn't have ridiculous backstory/rules for them anymore...

Either that or get Cruddace to write the next codex... then no one will play them for at least ten years ¬_¬

I'm bitter, can you tell?
