Me too - moar elves, dwarves, hobbits, trolls, goblins, wizards, rings, and whatnot. BOOYA!

'Oh no, peter jackson and the studio want to make money by making more movies!' Silly. If you don't think it's a good idea, or that it will make the story watered-down, boring, or somesuch nonsense, then don't watch it!

Fun and Fluff for the Win!

I look forward to all the wonderful changes and updates Peter Jackson will bring to this stodgy old tale. I mean, who would want to just re-tell the same story Tolkien did? That would be soooo boring.

Spoiler:
sarcasm.

Indeed. His LotR films were so poorly received, both critically and commercially, that I can't believe they would give him another chance. I'm sure he will add in laser guns and space ships like last time.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I don't generally base my opinion on critical and commercial acclaim, I base them on my opinion. As long as there was one scene he cut for time, he shouldn't have wasted time adding crap that he thought would be cool. I know people love those movies, and there are parts of them I enjoy, but many of the best scenes are ruined by his changes and additions. All the trials and struggles of humanity during Pelennor Fields ... and they fail. Until a ghost army sweeps in and murders everything in six seconds. Maybe you shouldn't have come, Rohan, because you were totally irrelevant.

Of course you are allowed to have an opinion, and I'm allowed to point out that your opinion is meaningless and silly.

To be clear, by meaningless, I refer to the fact that it won't change a single thing about what Jackson is making nor will it have any impact on how well recieved it is. Even if it is crap it is still going to be huge. Just look at the Star Wars prequels. Huge steamy piles o' gak every one of them and they all did well.

He changed LOTR, you may not have liked it, I don't know, but many did. And how many films stay true to the book?
The Darren Shan vampire series are some of my favourite books, they made a film and it was so loosely based on the first three books they could have made it without connecting it at all too the books, changed the names and I doubt the author would have even been able to sue them for copyright...

What Jackson is doing here is taking parts from other Tolkien stories/appendicies to tell more of the Middle Earth tale as its unlikely they'd be able to do any other ME based film/s. it's not going to be identical, but it'll still be good.

If I didn't clarify properly - removing scenes for time is fine. Changing things so they flow better in a different medium is fine. Bizarre changes that work only to fit Peter Jackson's vision of how things should be - Bad.

Entmoot - in the Book. "Saruman is a dick, tree guys, lets go give him a jolly good kicking!" "Word up little hobbit dudes, Evil stuff is no bueno. Since we are all gathered here as a group, we can march on down to Orthanc now and raise a little hell."

In the Movie. "Sorry lil hobbit guys, we are apathetic in the face of evil. No dice, we are going back to shagging trees. But we'll give you a lift out of the forest. Oh snap, dead trees! Raaaage! War for revenge is waaaay cooler than taking a moral stand against Evil. Now, Ents, even though it took us days to assemble and another day or so of walking to get here to the southern edge of the forest, appear magically out of the trees in a single wave!"

What exactly was served by the changing of this scene? To make the Ents seem a little less warlike and 'good'? It takes a perfectly reasonable progression of events and changes it into movie nonsense.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG
-"Don't mind Frazzled. He's just Dakka's crazy old dude locked in the attic. He's harmless. Mostly."
