Is it at all accurate to suggest that in America, whilst you do celebrate your uniqueness (in certain ways), it's made abundantly clear (through the pledge of allegiance, etc.) that all loyalties and identities are surrendered and made subservient to an superior American identity?
I'm not sure I'd say that Britain has a similar process.
I'm sure there are plenty who would disagree, but for myself and most of the people I know thier allegiance is to the state then nation, or more properly: community, state, nation.
It's interesting to note the pledge of allegiance was conceived by a socialist, the real kind not Obama.

I think the majority of people are the same , be they American, British, Afganni, Chinnese, whatever (even the French!); They just want to get on with their lives and enjoy themselves from time to time.
Of course its the miniscule minority of any population that cause problems by wanting to puff up their chests and tell everyone else whats what.
Oh except for all teenagers, feth know what they are on about!

They are if they are left to their own devices!
If they get taken as a child and systematically brainwashed, they grow up to be whatever the hell their masters want them to be, the human brain is very malleable in its infancy.
Hence my distaste for Religion as a whole, and my utter loathing for Islam.
Fact is, regardless of nationality, If you were indoctrinated by a terrorist Cleric in Pakistan from the age of 5-15 you would be fething desperate to get the party started and blow yourself up. Can you blme them? I dont even hate the bombers, I hate the scum that mind feth them from an early age.
One day of Jihad is worth 1000 days praying and fasting don't you know.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels. |

Stop trying to brainwash by maleable and innocent brain!
Joe average muslim and Joe average christian just want to work and then play with the kids at the end of the day, maybe watch the game at the weekend.
The shepards and sheep that bomb (be it their suicide or our airdropped) look all the more moronic for their intrinsic similarities to one another.
Secular apathy is the one true religion or at least would be if I could be bothered to think it through properly.

At the end of the day I don't think it's a suitable foundation for members of a nation to have divided loyalties to an international ideology. I think that states have shown this preference in the past; McCarthyism vs Communism or the Church of England versus Catholics. In both of these examples the followers of these 'foreign' ideologies were demonised by a supposed loyalty to an outside force... namely the Communist 'fifth columnists' to Moscow or the Catholics to the Papacy in Rome.
At the end of the day you do not want citizens who, when push comes to shove, espouse their allegiance to a fictional deity and his denziens in some foreign land. Automatically Appended Next Post: Again, that's why secularism and a patriotic loyalty to your country should be enforced on new arrivals.

Really? When talking about where you live or the sports teams you root for, sure. But I don't know a soul who says they're a Philadelphian first, a Pennsylvanian second and an American third. Maybe something like that is true in Texas or parts of the Deep South or something, I dunno. Seems like quite the 1860 attitude.
