I'm confused as to whether you're saying the Alpha Legion are villain sues in the current canon, or whether they'll be villain sues in your canon.

It's more 'They are villain sues currently, but in my canon they aren't'.

Necron and MEQ fluff is horrible, the former in particular was a disaster. Don't have much of an issue with the others, except that Tyranids need to be shown actually winning something.

The recent CSM Codex actually had decent fluff, though the best recent example of GW doing a codex right is Dark Eldar.

I enjoy ALL the fluff. Codexes ESPECIALLY - why? IT'S PROPAGANDA! If you consider the in-universe perspective, every paragraph on SPEHSS-MAHREENS or Imperial Guard could function perfectly as propaganda meant to inspire and satisfy the citizens of the Imperium.

As said a few times, the main thing I like about GW's 40K universe is the fact that it's not definite, but very varied, multi-faceted and they greatly encourage you to make your own.

I think they should do a lot more "irreconcilable" interpretations. Give two, three, four different "versions" of ... say .. the Blood Angels.. noble, grim, evil, desperate, etc.. . Encourge players to add more of their own.

It's what makes 40K great IMO. In Warmachine, there is "only one" Khador. Once you've read up on them, you can move on. Boring.

40K fluff is a gift that keeps on giving (at least as long as GW refuses to have their lore pinned down by fluff-lawyers).

But back on topic before this dereails.

Well sorry to read you are somewhat angred by GW and its treatment of fluff. Well perhaps attemt to create your own as several posters have already pointed out in this tread. If not simply ignore it

If it bothers you think of it in terms of a bog standard imperial citizen.

They hear all the stories/rumours filtered through galaxies or even millenia, and even then they may not have the right interpratation of the particular story. For example some imperial citizens have never even seen a space marine, let alone know their history or particulars. Some have even been tricked into believing that chaos marines were loyalist and vice versa.

The way I see 40k fluff is that there are always loads of perspectives on individual topics and no one answer is the right answer, it makes fluff re-writes and changes more acceptable (not that I'd get that upset anyways) and it gives us a richer universe to live in and for people to design/create their own stories without upsetting everything.

In my opinion, the fluff is the best part about 40k. The entire universe is just so much fun to think about. If it wasn't for the fluff I would have turned to Hordes or something else by now.

I can't vouch for every single GW author as I have not read all of them, but the ones I have read: Dan Abnett, Graham McNeill and Ben Counter, have really impressed me.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

There is only one book about the Tau and a limited few of Sisters of Battle. I for one would enjoy reading about these races perspectives on things.

40k with the fluff is perhaps the stupidest idea I've ever heard. You are telling me you would like to spend $200 + on models with no information or backstory as to why they are the way they are? even if that isn't the circumstance it's still childish to be upset about particular fluff, you don't on the game and you aren't forced to like it. You either do or you don't

Your perspective is identical to that of the people who actually write the fluff, then.
Congratulations on getting there. It took me years to back away from the idea that there is such a thing as "canon" in 40k, just because so many people kept telling me there was... One of the worst urban myths of the entire fandom!

So that Marine fans can vote on the most developed faction of the entire franchise being developed more, of course.

Might as well have called the poll "which army are you playing". Geez, people.

Okay, but who are the good guys then?

The Tau are the closest thing, but they are oppressive, mind controlling, propaganda using, socially engineering bastards too. They just pretend to be good guys.

If you don't like the dark tone to the fluff, you're reading the wrong setting/playing the wrong game.

The problem is, writing from an alien perspective is very hard to do well, and the Black Library has enough problems writing humans already.

As far as the Sisters... well, they aren't that popular, and you market your stars, not your dogs.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
