Found some really cheep toys at the candy factory and thought they might have some conversion potential.
sorry for the poor choice of font/font size in the pictures. Please don't strain yourselves trying to read it

I'm thinking that with a bit of work I could turn this into a viable Stormtalon conversion.
I'm not really sure about the scale of the model and while aware that I will have to shorten it by a considerable amount I'm not sure by how much exactly or even if this is feasible.
It's about 22cm long and the wings can be easily removed (I'll probably ditch them and attempt to build my own.)
So what do you think? Do-able or..err... don't-able...(?)

My plans for this are a little different. To be honest this thing may not see any conversion action for quite some time (or possibly never).
The moment I saw this thing though I instantly thought of how potentially Orky it could get.
I'm talkin' Boyz hanging out windows taking potshots and bullets blazing from a turret on the roof. Top it off with some Orky reinforcement and effigies
One day when I eventually get into Orks I'll be using this as my Ork Trukk (providing I still have it around).

Peace

I love the doomrider! Are you doing a whole bike squad?

Great models here, the sculpting is on point!

Thank you!
Yes I do plan on converting a 3-man bike squad. The three from the DV box to be precise.
I have not yet put any thought into the other two though except that they'll follow a similar theme.

Been a bit since I've last updated.
I've had a lot of life come a long and smack me up-side the skull

Here is a picture of some rocks.

I've been living here for 6 months now and have only just now started plundering the driveway for basing materials (and there's more where that came from).
The cars going in and out grind the rocks down into various sizes and shapes including some nice flat stones for standing models on.

Anyway, here's what I scrapped together with the materials

In hindsight I should have taken a pic before sticking ol' mate and his bike down on the base however I'm sure you get the idea.
I'm shelving this dude for now while I work on converting the rest of the squad. Once they're all lookin' pretty I'll paint them all together.

On a non-bike related matter, here's something else I've been messing about with.

This is my first time building mechanical parts and joints but I'm pretty happy with the result.
I decided to attempt to create a reloading arm-thingy like the ML Marine in the new tactical marines kit. I was trying to keep it small and compact so it would not be mistaken for a Techmarine servo-arm I think, however, I failed in that regard and have instead created a Techmarine with a ML (not rule-savvy unfortunately).
I'm now considering giving that backpack to a future Techmarine and giving the reloading arm another crack however I have to say I'm rather fond of the look of this guy now

Anyways, let me know what you think and drop me some C&C

Peace

Progress progress progress...

Here's the next Biker I'm working on as well as his completed base. I wish I'd taken the time to chip at the tombstone a bit more as for a ruined slab of stone it looks fairly intact.

I've also cut away part of the Plasma Gun and replaced it with a Melta. I left some of the PG as I liked how it made the Melta look.

Next up for this guy is a Green Stuff makeover
I'll be patching the Melta and Plasma guns together properly as well as fixing up the front wheel.

At the moment I'm not sure how to go about making the handlebar grips. Maybe bone handles like on my captain's sword?
I'm also struggling (again) with what I should do with the back of the bike. I thought to load it up with pouches and packs but that's not really thematic with the LotD (could still look good though ).
I'm pretty happy with how the back of the Sgt's bike turned out but I want to avoid copy/pasting.

Hit me with some ideas if you have any.

Peace

Progress update!
Here what I've whipped up on the back end of this bike.

I guess it's a sort of a skull shrine thing complimented by munitions.
Still a bit more GSing to go on it, just to sharpen a few details, particularly on the skull.
I've been fighting the temptation to stick some candles on these bikes as they're an element of my army that's fairly consistent (plus I think they look cool). Obviously they're not normal candles and stay alight despite being blown around during combat and general movement however I don't think they'd work well on bikes. I'd have to sculpt the flames practically horizontally and streaked out to represent the effects of the fast moving bike.
IDK It could possibly work...

Decided to slightly extend the exhaust pipes as well.
I'll be adding some additional detail to them before finally priming the model black

I like the idea of candles, I don't know if they would look good on bikes or not, got to try to find out, maybe put some sort of alter on back of a bike and then it could work, or maybe put them in a lantern of some sorts?

I like the extended exhaust pipes, cool stuff!

Hey Dakkadakka

Been a while since my last update but I bring with me my latest work.
Here are 6 tactical LotD marines including a PW Sargent and ML marine

Let's take a closer look shall we?
...

Only the first two marines have had a GS treatment but once I'm motivated I'll tend to the rest of the squad.
I should mention that I plan on filling the squad out to 10 models which will most likely be fielded as two 5-man units (That is until I build more).

Let me know what you think, also any ideas you might have for how to GS the rest of the models.
Obviously being standard troops they won't be receiving much more treatment than the two I've already done.
I realised that I tend to clutter my models with too many random details so I'm trying really hard to restrain myself when it comes to keeping within a constant theme and then not over doing it.
I'm thinking I might keep the candles as a recurring theme in the army. I also like the chains. Obviously bones/skeletons and fire should be a constant theme too.

Anyway, hit me with some C&C

Peace

I'm still unsure if I like or dislike the axe, which was made using a skeleton warrior sword.
I do however like the exposed, gloveless battle damage look

Okay so I've been really slack with keeping this blog up to date. While progress is as steady as it ever is I've neglected to keep this thread up to date with my progress.
I still have been posting in the P&M forum with updates but feel that I still owe something to this blog.

Anyway, without further adieu.

And here are some others.

I've actually recently decided that I'd like to field them as BA Death Company troops as I feel the rules are slightly fitting and so am thinking about buying the recently released Lord Executioner SM to convert as Count As Astaroth the Grim.
I reckon I'd give him a 'Grim Reaper' like aspect, including a nice, fat scythe to represent Astaroth's axe.

What do you guys think?

Wow, it's been a while since I commented on this thread but these are looking fantastic! You've come a long way since your first few models as these are just getting better and better, your biker conversion is an absolute beaut and I love the half face, half skull sergeant (they are immortal after all ;D). I think a Chaplain would look good in this army, as he would fit in with the baroque, skull and bone theme. I'd also love to see what you could do with one of those models..

Also what are you thinking for assault marine jump packs? I'd also like to see some of those floating about ;3 Or dreadnoughts, or vehicles or something, just everything has so much potential!
Good luck buddy :3

Here's what I'm working on at present.
My LotD Astorath counts as:

Still needs much work but you can see where I'm going with it.
I'm not sure what to have him holding in his outstretched hand. I'm thinking either a skull, an hourglass or a rosarius (as Astorath has one)

New scythe blade. Still working on it.
Thinking about adding those dangly skull bits so I've blue-tac'd them on for this photo.

I'm thinking about re-building the robe on the back of his legs to be sweeping in the opposite direction and having it more covering his right leg.
Aside from that, no major progress, mostly been shaping the scythe which is now on the verge of snapping. I'll look at ways to reinforce it to prevent this while also improving it aesthetically.

I'm not sure if this counts as progress since pretty much everything different about the model has only been blue-tac'd on, but here's what I got:

The custom jump pack is made from a teleport homer, a Stormboyz Accessory, two bits I have no idea what they are but they're from the Contemptor Dread kit, and finally, the lid from a generic fish-shaped soy sauce thing.

Wings are from a Sang Guard but I wanna find something a little more... Idk... thematic?
It would be cool to find some skeletal wings of suitable size. So far all the ones I've found were slightly too big.
I'm also going to be resculpting the lower half of the robe. I want it too flow in the other direction with a little more wind kicking it up.

As always comments and criticisms are welcome.

What about Gargoyle or Scourge wings (the bat kind) to give him that more devilish look hes got going on?

I think I'll stick with those wings unless I stumble upon something more appeasing.
Gunna order a set tomorrow.

Also...

New legs!

The head is purely temporary, I have no intention of using that one.
I know they look a bit scrawny atm but once I robe it up they'll be sufficiently bulky.
The robe will be sweeping out behind him to his left. His right leg will be largely covered by the robe being blown across it.

New GS cloth over the new legs.

as you can see I've done two layers of cloth in an attempt to give more detail and make his robe that much more tattered however I'm not so sure on the execution.

As usual, let me know what you think.

The double layered cloth looks great, and the flow of the cloak works really well.
The one little thing that sticks out to me is how the cloth is hugging to the shape of his raised knee,
as i think the cloth (depending on the material) would flow from the top of the thigh to the knee cap.

I could be wrong, but I would put a tiny bit more Green Stuff in the dip between the knee and the thigh.
But like I said I could be wrong, it might just be the angle of the pic .

It's been quite a while since I've posted here on Dakka Dakka. It's also been some time since I've put in any time to work on my Legion.

I actually suffered quite a serious hand injury while using my x-acto blade.

(for those who like gore)
Spoiler:

26 stitches

I somehow managed to sever the tendon in my pinky-finger and had to go to hospital for surgery to get it re-attached. Took about 6 weeks to get about 80% movement back during which I had to wear a very uncomfortable splint. luckily I now have about 95% movement
Please learn from my mistake. Cut away from any and all of your body, use fresh blades, and do not use excessive force to achieve what you are trying to do.

Now for the good news

Before I injured myself I was working on a conversion I was honestly hoping to complete before presenting it to you all. However with my hand being injured and restrained I was unable to finish it in the time-frame I wished I was able to.
And so here it is! My very own custom Legion of the Damned Venerable Dreadnought

I built the Multi-Melta myself and carved the bones on the other arm from the pre-existing hand.
As it is I am not ready to start painting it just yet. there is still a degree of GS'ing but after that it will be ready for the next stage in it's creation.
It's pose is also not currently set. It's joints are mostly unglued except for it's legs which are set in place.

Let me know what you think, whether you think I should try a different pose or it lacks a particular detail you think it needs.
Personally I feel like I need a couple of chains hanging off him not just wrapped around.

enjoy, Peace

Here's a closeup of the sarcophagus
