I would not like rules in the magazine at all, unless they were small expansions like Legendary Battles. Why? I don't want to hunt down issues of White Dwarf so I can play with one of their new models.
What I would like to see are big chunky articles like they used to have. I don't want a fething 2 page spread of a Dragon Mage torching Orc Archers, I want content about the battle. If it's a smaller magazine with 3-4 articles that are substantial, so be it. If it's released bi-monthly, so be it as well. I'd rather shell out money for a decent magazine than what I get now.
What kind of articles would I like?
1) Tacticas written by people who can actually PLAY THE GAME.
2) Conversion and painting step-by-step guides. The painting ones not like what they have currently but like the old Eavy Metal masterclass ones.
3) Fluff stories.
Basically the stuff they used to have in White Dwarf.

I'll take what Filbert says as gospel, as his views are pretty balanced and he doesn't have an axe to grind with GW.
Any paint guides for the new Chaos stuff, or is that another £10 to shell out in the apple store?
And finally, fair play to Flashman for tearing open the plastic sleeve on a WD. It's hard enough to sum up the courage to look at a WD in a supermarket (the shame of being a nerd) much less break the law in trying to get your hands on one!

I flicked through the latest issue yesterday in store (while the staff were all, to a man, totally spazzing out about the paint sets and whether they could afford to buy it and the defence line. A funnier sight I have not seen in a loonnnngggggg time).
I didn't buy it.
Same old, same old. I will admit that the photography seems better, but maybe they've just upgraded to a 10 megapixel camera or something. Content = blah. Dull. Kitbashing just showed the end result, not actually how they did it, and the 'new and improved with tons of tips' painting section (hereto to be only referred to as the Pain Section), was as dire as ever, with no directions at all. The page on salt weathering did catch my eye, but I'm not going to buy a whole magazine for one page.
More random Hobbit stuff at the back.

If you're reading WD for anything but GW's party line or the "exclusive" rules that are coming out every so often...
I hate to be the one telling you this, but you're doing it wrong.
There are a lot of magazines/websites you can read for far more information regarding GW's own releases or varying painting techniques.

I dunno maybe the OP went about it wrong but I fully agree with him in a way.
I love GW. I love the GW universe. To me there is no better sci-fi universe mostly because it is so over the top. But I also want more than ads.
I dunno I grew up on 90's WD and looking at what it is now it isn't even bathroom material. There needs to be words to fill that void. I remember when fluff was an organic changing thing. Times change I guess. Some people still stick with GW and some have lost faith.
All I remember was being excited about new mini releases and new fluff. Now I cringe for both price and background respectively. But in my mind the GW universe wont die for a long time after GW because they really did make something bigger and more fun than then themselves. And I'll be shooting lasguns at Space Marines well in my head or on the table long after GW dies. Its that good of a universe to me.

I used to love the old white dwarf and i buy the new one out of habbit more than anything, and because $10 isnt really that much to me.
I really loved the drawn art!!! i dont want to see computer altered pics of models, as cool as they are they just dont beat the old art work. The turorials, whether it was a terrain making or painting or converting, there was just so much useful information. Sometimes they had a template you could photocpy and cut out to assemble etc. I really loved all the short stories and extra fluff bits and pieces, the ideas for senarios and house rules.
I want them to go back to this format rather than interviews with the game designers etc. i also preferred the older style battle reports

Softer (and more absorbent) paper so that it can serve two purposes in the bathroom.
The retro title block stylings is what prompted me to pick up my first issue in years (as in buy).
Then I realised, it's just some lipstick on the same old turd and It joined the other paper products in the recyc bin after reading it (which didn't take long at all).

Again, I'm not so sure it is illegal. So long as you don't remove it from the store without paying, you should be fine.
Now, the shop proprietor/manager would be well within their rights to ask you leave the premises (for which they aren't legally obliged to give you a reason), but I don't think you can be arrested for it.

Thanks to all the replies!!!
I think that most of you folks out there got the idea of the question.
Some of the posts were on the mark, some were just attacks...
The point is, thanks for the feedback positive and negative.
Im going to start a new thread....
Why Gav Thorpe needs to stick to writing fluff and not rules....

I dont play Fantasy.
Can we get all the Fantasy stuff taken out of WD as well?
if you want interactive stuff and moving pictures, why not get the digital version on iPad? I will stick to the paper copy as i dont own an iPad and i think buying one just for WD would constitute false economy (and be grounds for a divorce)

Yes, I agree with this !!
Also, I quite like the new WD, I think it's quite good ! Remember they are still green, give them time to improve. There battle reports aren't all that clear, but apart from that I figured the content was decent
Also, OP. You said you only bought 2 in the last 3 years. That's like saying I know there is a million different versions of something, i don't like one or two so I don't like any of them.
despite the old WD turning into some glorified catalog, the occasional extra rules and units where nice, and they even pooped a couple of decent battle reports and campaign ideas.

I think that they should change their battle reports, both in format and content. They took a few steps in the right direction with the redesign. However playing games with ONLY new releases and the opposing side practically throwing the game is pretty lame IMO
