You can't really compare the hammerhead to IG though. It's points are higher than they should be due to age, primary weapon options are limited to the railgun and a few forgeworld turrets, and secondary weapons are laughable at best. I don't think that makes it bad by any standard.

But the hammerhead can fire as a fast skimmer, ignore terrain checks completely (Next game I'm parking that sucker on a building) can deliver a lot of pain to infantry and heavy vehicles, is very resilient, and is fairly easy to fit into a list. I doubt the IG tank could move 12", fire the template weapon, and get a 3+ cover easy. If it is a scoring unit in Big Guns, its amazing because its so fast and resilient to enemy fire. This one tank can easily claim an objective or get line breaker. I never play without one.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Why can't I make the comparison?

And I didn't say the Hammerhead is bad, I said it isn't amazing.

No, but the Griffon can hit pretty much anywhere on the table it wants without moving, has better accuracy, gets to barrage snipe, ignores a lot of cover, and gets a 0+ cover save thanks to being out of LOS and immune to return fire. And it's still a scoring unit.

And the worst part about this? Despite being half the price of the Hammerhead the consensus among IG players is that the Griffon is too weak to include in a serious IG list. If that's not a sign of bottom-tier status for Tau I don't know what is.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I guess I'll have to concede that. I'm probably just looking at the Hammerhead as being good compared to what's in the Tau dex as opposed to what it should be in the current environment.
