As above, if it doesnt roll to hit, it cannot make a snap shot.

We agree it can snap shot, however since it does not roll to hit it cannot target Flyers.

I think, StormKid, that you're not considering what a Snap Shot is.

Snap Shooting is when you are set to BS 1, rather than your normal BS.

In order to use BS, you must roll a die. If your shooting attack (psychic or wargear) does not use a die, then it hits automatically. You cannot choose to use a die for this type of auto-hit.

If you are not rolling a die, you cannot hit a Flyer. There are only two ways to shoot at a Flyer: with a 6 for your "to hit" roll, or using normal BS if you have the Skyfire USR.

please explain what you are saying and how the above FAQ lets me snap shoot with a weapon that auto hits.

stormboy97, the FaQ about Zooming Flyers is more specific that the general FaQ about snap shots and auto hits.

This is because the FaQ about Zooming Flyers specifically mentiones that things that auto hit can not target a Zooming Flyer. What about that are you not understanding?

lets see 2 wierboy warpheads, 2/3 chance of getting ZZAP, have to pass a psychic check at 10, then the flier gets deny the witch, you have to glance or penatrate, then the jink save, oh my that is alot of rolling for one shot.

If no then it is an attack that otherwise does not roll to hit and therefore cannot target a Zooming Flyer.

If you auto hit you do not roll to hit...

Remember the question says "or indeed any weapon that doesn’t need to roll To Hit or hits automatically" ZZAP falls into that category.

Do not ignore the context of the question.

Okay. But the Flyer FAQ specifically mentions them both. Auto hitting doesn't work, and attacks which don't roll to hit don't work. Neither of them.

Exactly. The first FAQ ruling basically answers the question of what happens if the Wierdboy has to fire snap shots (he's gone to ground, or regrouped that turn, etc)...does Zzap still auto-hit in that case? And the answer per the FAQ is yes.

That is from YAP saying that ZZAP can snap shoot. About this FAQ.

So the requeres a roll to hit which auto hits with ZZAP because of a special exception to the normal shooting rules.

So this power can snap shoot because the roll to hit auto hits due to a special ORK RULE. It has a special rule that lets it auto hit which is not the same as not rolling to hit.

Lets go through these one point at a time. Do we all agree that this power can snap shoot??????

Because by the FAQ entry above it counts as shooting but just auto hits because of a codex special rule.

stormboy, it doesn't matter whether or not Zzzap can be Snap fired... because Snap Fire or not, it is still something that doesn't roll to hit... and the FAQ for flyers, that you have quoted yourself several times in this thread, very specifically says that abilities that don't roll to hit or that hit automatically can not be used to target flyers.


That's the end of the story. Arguing over whether or not Zzzap can be Snap Fired accomplishes absolutely nothing, because the ability to snap fire it doesn't change the simple, basic fact that it hits automatically and therefore can not ever target a flyer.

Only snap fire can hit flyers... but that doesn't mean that all snap fire can hit flyers.

You can snap shot in more situations than over watch and shooting flyers. So in regular situations when you snap fire, you can use Zzap and hit automatically. Like being in a transport moving over 6" where the crew must fire snap shots.

But we now have exceptions.

You can't use your PSA for overwatch as there is a further restriction.

You can't hit flyers with shooting that doesn't roll to hit.

So yes, you can snap shot Zzap in situations which don't have further restrictions... Like if you we're gone to ground or in a moving transport.

It breaks no rule, and follows general to specific.

You can't hit flyers... It all works, no conflicts.

Even if fired as a Snap Shot, the power still hits automatically (or doesn't roll to hit, same difference) therefore cannot target a flyer.
It's simply not happening.
