Warwick Kinrade said it best in the foreword to the old Imperial Armour Apocalypse book:

As far as we are concerned Codexes and the rulebook are official, everything else is up to the players to use and ignore at will. Want to play on a ruined city board using the City of Death rules variant? Fine. Want to play on a ruined city board without using the rules variants, just using the rules as published in the 40K rulebook? Also fine. The only thing that matters is that both players know this before they start, and both players agree that's the way they want to play the game. So is City of Death official? You can't use it in a tournament! The Imperial Armour rules are just the same...

"Official" doesn't mean that you don't need your opponent's consent.

Key point: the OLD IA:A book. This statement has now been replaced by a statement that FW rules are part of standard 40k.

If you don't like the topic of a thread you can just decline to read it. You don't need to come in and tell everyone how unhappy you are that the discussion exists.

I share the same opinion about this as you, I am fully in the boat of FW is official, I just pointed it out in the 12 page thread that happened not that long ago. And this thread will offer absolutely nothing new

Many items in the newer Forge World books are stamped as 40K approved. What is the general feeling about using these units? Should these units be used in regular 40K games and tournaments? I just was looking for a broader base of opinions on this issue and thought this would be the place to get those opinions. Thanks in advance to all.

Some tournaments allow them, but most don't. Some groups and stores play with them, and some don't. Our group is pro Forge World, and use the non-Apocalypse units in standard games. Some people prefer not to play with these rules.

If you're worried about your local store and tournaments, call them.

Quite.
