well....
copperhead road is in my country/near my town-though they had to change the name slightly so people would stop stealing the road signs eventually (we also still produce a lot of nice homebrew)
we're apparently noted as important in the history of Appalachian traditional music due to a fiddler convention back in the 20's
back when i was a wee kid, a fellow had his truck back into a propane tank in the middle of town, which did a decent chunk of damage
oh, and the town is in one of the highest valleys in the state

oh, and the town i went to college to for a few years (which i'm including since its only about an hour away) was apparently called little chicago due to the mob picking up supplies there during Prohibition

Scotland

We've a fair few interesting things happen but there's a few from Strachur (Argyll, Scotland).

Story of Half Hung Archie - Hung for stealing sheep or possibly Murder. His wife rows him home across the Loch (Scottish word for lake) and sees him twitch. Feeds him whisky and Breast milk and he revives by the time they reach shore ( a mile or so ). Story may be false but makes a good tale.

A few years ago a RAF Tornado jet from the base my Brother works on crashed into the hillside (about 10 miles up the road) - the jets were soon the be replaced and pilots having a joyride so I'm told. They were going a lot lower than normal. Our area is common ground for low level training and military operations.

A US Super Constellation crashed into the hill behind my house, in 1946, Killing all on board. there's a good website but i cant find link.

The local laird was good friends with Ian Fleming and is said to be inspiration for James Bond character. When you hear about his life its not a surprise.

When the stars were right, They could plunge from world to world through the sky; but when the stars were wrong, They could not live. But although They no longer lived, They would never really die.

A good portion of my hometown still has cobblestone streets...as nice and scenic as is it, It's still a pain to drive over if you have rough suspension or you're on a bike.
