Being forced to divide your attention between the opponent and the environment around you is second nature to physical sports.
Yeah because navigating a flat field is such a challenge -_- Very few sports involve randomness as a factor. Don't expect e-sports to be much different. Competitive balance will always favor predictability in its rule set over randomness even in games of chance.
Also, Fafnir you have to admit that while pro level competitive players can be great guys in streams and even in game, competitive minded players (note these two things are different overlapping groups) are very often assholish in their interactions with others.
Back in CoD4 I knew a pro level player for Ghosts [Ghst]Moses and he was great. He played great he was fun to talk to and he was all around an awesome guy to be around. I also knew Ion, a complete ahole who took the game way to seriously and while very good just wasn't good enough to be a pro level player and very often wasn't fun to be around. EDIT: And heaven forbid Moses and Ion be in the same server at the same time. I had to issues harsh warnings more than once.
It's not surprising that these competitive minded players would soil the water for the rest of us as we'll likely have much more contact with them than with the much smaller community of players actually good enough to be pro. And not all pro level players are great either (
St Vicious of
LoL fame and a certain Zerg player in SCII). Maybe we should all stop generalizing.
