I run two teams with a vre with a fusion, TL, and beacon, as well as shadowsun with her drones.
They DS in first and direct shadowsun to her landing spot so that she lands exactly where I want every time.

Two problems here:

1) You don't get to choose the order that your reserves arrive in. If you roll a 3+ for Shadowsun before the beacon is in place you've just wasted the points.

2) You're spending enough to bring Farsight for no-scatter deep strike with even better firepower.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

1) You are right about reserves rolls being a problem. When I run this list I take insurance in the form of an autarch for that nice 2+, and having two teams means that I almost always have at least one when shadowsun comes down. And again, it helps the backfield blob come in together. I should have mentioned this.

2) Farsight costs more than one of these teams on his own, and brings me a plasma rifle and a fancy sword, neither of which is useful to me. What is useful is the extra HQ slot for Darkstrider who outflanks some fire warriors in a devilfish for me, or scouts them depending on game type.

The thing is that my army is built around this tactic, it's not just some random thing on the side. My list isn't optimized by any means, but it is really fun and I have had a lot of success with it. This is in part because all the other Tau players in my area (from what I've seen) use some variation of riptide gunline and people aren't really prepared for this.

Christ, where do you buy your turnips?
