Honestly, I am surprised GW even do Games Days at this point.

My first Games Day was last year 2012. I thought it was awesome, not least because I got Dan Abnett to sign a whole stack of his books for me. So from my point of view, I can only compare to last year. This year 2013 was no where near as good. I remember getting into the arena and thinking 'is this it?'. A lack of things to see compared to last year and the golden demon/armies on parade section was frankly embarrassing. I could not see properly and don't therefore see how the judges could. I have no knowledge or expertise regarding the financial/business side of Games Day that might inform their decisions. All I can say is what I thought as a longtime (over 20 years) player, collector and gamer of warhammer, and what I thought was that it was a huge disappointment.

I'm not, they make so much money for the amount of effort they put in it is a no brainer.

It's entirety possible that it's like white dwarf and it makes them no money but they keep it around simply because its always been there.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Unlikely though at £35 a ticket along with all the GW and especially FW stuff they sell on the day.

White Dwarf is marketing. It's basically an advert that is partly paid for by the people who buy it.

The show is a money making exercise. Considering the ticket price, no-one would attend who is not already a fan of GW games. If it doesn't make money, that would be due to bad organisation and management.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

In general they seem to have reduced the setup costs by making it all smaller and less interesting.
Smaller, cheaper venue, fewer staff, no games on display = no stuff to build and cart around, etc.
Lots of cost savings.

Next year, GW will do it even better:
One big warehouse, one staff at the door selling tickets for 50 GBP (handing out a free pen), one table in the corner of the warehouse with one staff selling the limited event only miniature for 30 GBP. Sounds like great fun!

Special Limited Edition pen, of course.

That you have to buy for £5.
