Fact is, my freind has a command squad OR a commisar, he only even fields one in our 1500 point matches. Commisar gets shot dead first (or, when I used to play orks, turned into a squig by old zogward). But a command squad with a medic are just so much better.

Well, a Company Command Squad is a flat out better HQ choice for the orders alone. I don't see how the Lord Commissar gets shot dead first, what with LoSir and him being one model among many.

Read the thread "IG medic" on the tactics forum - A CCS with a medic is not better than a Lord Commissar. A properly upgraded CCS maybe, but I've been using the Lord Commissar in all my 6ed games. He is tougher, usually cheaper, gives a huge buff to your infantry squads, and can convincingly kill something in challenges/close combat.

If he's being killed in the first turn, then your opponent has either left him in the open to be killed, rather than taking advantage of a 2+ "Look Out Sir!" save in any squad he joins, or he hasn't been upgraded with a Camo Cloak . Best go through this with your opponent....
