Ironically it seems to be the educational embodiment of blame the victim, where kids with mild problems mostly due to issues in there backgrounds are sent by well off parents who think that spending money is a good replacement for love.

This may not be the case for chowder, just a general feeling about the system. Not helped by the removal of access to the internet. Seems like its run by people who think the 1950s were a golden age and don't understand how vital understanding and use of technology in everyday life is to be employable. Like these people who keep there kids away from TV then wonder why they are social outcasts when they are excluded from accessing the cultural currency that binds relationships.

I take great offense to this. I am Chowder's neighbor and have known him for many years. His parents are not "shipping him off" and they are some of the nicest people I know. It is not fair to blame them as they have given him nothing but love. I do agree that it was not Chowders "fault" but given the situation I think his parents made a good choice. Please don't make statements about things you know very little about.

Frankly I think it's the school that's mental.
In today's world separation from the Internet shouldn't be encouraged.
The Internet is such a change from the world even 10/15 years ago.
Anyone ignoring that is a fool and a Luddite.

Yeah, no slandering Pappa-Chowder.

Several of us met Chowder's dad at Dakkacon a couple of years back.

The guy drove his son from north of Boston to Philadelphia and back again, just so his lad could play toy soldiers with the rest of us. He seemed like a top bloke and several of us old time Dakkantediluvians would have liked to have recruited him for the cause.

That is his personal business, but I can say i think he was suffering from some depression and was having trouble with his grades in school.

Here was me thinking he'd become a serial cat kicker or some such.

It can be a downer in itself to be depressed when you've got a really loving/supportive family, it just makes what you're feeling seem even more perplexing.

I would like to chime in that from the few times I've spoken to Chowders dad, he seems like one of the most down to earth, nice, funny guys I've ever spoken to.

Like I said, I was not talking about his situation, but about the system in general in response to the link to Wikipedia I quoted. So, please don't get your knickers in a twist about something I didn't say. I don't know anything about him or why he was sent there.

We need to do that again now I have a webcam.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I'm a little let down by the chowders dad/bunny suit story, i thought there was going to be more to the story to it than "i put on a bunny suit" (classy pun btw) . Real question is, why do you have a bunny suit hanging around? Get some furry inspired action on the weekend purplefood?

On the other hand I'm thinking a group of people who used to chat on webcam and called themselves the "harem" might have too much story for me
