No, legionaries were part of a well oiled machine of death, but not exactly running around getting in epic one on one sword duels.

Yeah, that was more in response to the "gladius is a relatively non-lethal weapon" thing. Which is almost true; they are still very deadly if you stab with them. Which is what legionaries are trained to do.

But yeah, the 1 on 1 swordsmanship thing is silly. The barbarians would probably be into that, but definitely not romans. Because they are, you know, disciplined.

Also not well equipped for it. Heavy infantry are not the strongest one on one combatants. Especially not hauling around huge shields like the Scutum and a short sword. If anything the Romans loved fighting in groups and fighting dirty. The very design of the Pilum screams 'suck it we win and you lose.'

Yeah, can you imagine waving a rectangular scutum around, blocking barbarian strikes from all around? That'd more likely result in you either harming yourself or poking the eye out of a Parthian.

Celtic Kings looks badass.

You believed that because you saw the game as boring and forgettable because of the fact that it has Romans in it, everyone else must as well. That's prejudice combined with false consensus I also love how you insult people that bring up valid points.

If you guys are gonna have a cat fight at least put on bikinis and get a mud pit.

Sol never attributed his distaste of the Romans to anyone but himself. No need to make a thread about it XD

No, at first he wondered how people liked it. Nothing about the Romans were mentioned in his first post here.

It was only in his second post that his disliking of the Romans was brought up, and there is no room at all to even infer that he was including anyone but himself in that distaste.

You then proceeded to call him a troll.

Not only are you utterly wrong in calling him prejudiced, but you were also making up some imagined fact that he said if he dislikes the Romans, everyone else must, too, and you are ignoring the fact that you opened the name-calling in the first place by insulting him without making a valid point. ("Obvious troll is obvious" does not count in any way as a valid point).

The most that Soladrin did wrong is make a sarcastic comment about how nice your brain is, given the false conclusions you managed to draw by putting words in his mouth.

Quit trying to play the victim taking the moral high-ground, because it's a completely transparent façade.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Just drop it guys. The lable "troll" gets bandied around all over this forum, if you think someone has used it inappropriately then report them. As someone who gets called a troll whenever I make any casual comment whatsoever that's what I would urge Sol to do.

The plural of codex is codexes.

Please don't.

Thanks.
