I've never had much luck with my chaos rhinos. The dirge caster is nice, but as a delivery method they stink as much as the loyalist ones. Deep striking has served me better.

Chaos Rhinos with dirge casters are a mainstay in my lists, and have never failed me. Sure they pop, but as previous posters have mentioned if you bring armour saturation they do exactly what they should. I tabled a Tau Farsight army Turn 3 with rhino rush, supplemented by mauler fiends, spawn, and a DP.

I like my Chaos Rhino's equip with Havoc Launchers.. It's a 48" str 5 blast that's twin linked. with 3-4 on the board I usually push about double the cost of the Rhino's themselves and by that point their passengers are out and about causing problems for the rest of my opponents models.

I am never worried about giving up first blood with my rhinos. What I find more damaging is having your rhinos destroyed turn one, leaving your units stranded in your deployment zone.

I find that hoofing it on foot with your chaos marines isn't so bad if you have some fast units ( spawns, bikers) to harass the enemy. It gives your marines a chance to advance before taking too much fire.
