That other thread I assumed was simply a joke. "Witness the rise of Russian Empire live". Doesn't sound like a serious topic and I've seen enough red alert I don't want to sit through links to those videos with no actual comment on the issue.

Are you saying Putin is like Hitler and shouldn't be appeased? Theres a difference, Hitler didn't have nukes and russias army is inferior to the Wests in every single measure. We are the ones threatening russia by trying to put the ukraine into the EU; not the other way around. Nobody wants a nuclear war and frankly the west shouldn't be banging on russias door like this.

I think calling people who want to be free of Russian influence selfish is pretty rich about a guy who just made a thread that turned the entire Ukrainian crisis into a rant about how his life is personally in danger because of the situation. You haven't posted any links to these "war-mongers" calling for us to start a war over the Crimea.

Also, you seem to be under the mistaken impression that the minute a conflict - any conflict - breaks out between the Russians and West that you'll be instantly press-ganged into service and sent to the front lines with naught but 5 rounds of ammo and told to follow the guy in front of you so that you can pick up his gun when ze Germans... er... Russians machine gun him down. Besides, how are you going to be drafted when the ICBMs are pointed at your backyard? Obviously TotalWar1402 is pretty high up the list of Russian strategic nuclear targets.

The West wasn't banging on Russia's door. Actually, I take that back, that American bob-sledder had to break down a stuck bathroom door in Sochi, so I guess technically we did. Anyway, what I'm trying to say in all seriousness is that geo-political power games have been going on for decades between the West and Russia/USSR. No one has started launching nukes despite far worse circumstances than this. The British government, the American government, and the Russian government all know that they stand far more to lose than gain by an all out war. At the same time, this sort of aggression by a major power that is historically been at odds with Western interests should be countered and or ameliorated. Sanctions, political repercussions, economic repercussions, and other measures are all part of how this game is played.
