Calgar's gauntlets are far superior to most power fists.

There is probably a very wide range in what could be called a "power fist" in 40k. The ancient relics of a chapter are totally different from the basic design that a veteran Guardsman sergeant may have access to. This opens up the possibility for a wide range of abilities and functions. Some models will have mind interface controls and fusion power cells, others may have a lawn mower starter cord and a petrol engine.

Very, very carefully.

If he's worth his salt, then he'll know every page of the Primer by heart, and therefore doesn't need to.

I mean, if you punch something, the fact that you have extra-strong fingers is pretty meaningless.

Here is where you get to the multiple and separate strata of people. Some people encounter a power fist and say yeah, you punch with a power fist; fists are used for punching; that is how it looks in Dawn of War.

Other people think that since the power fist increases size and strength of the fingers, but does not help anyone punch harder, then it is probably used in a way that takes advantage of those features.

I'm not saying that either of those types of people are wrong or should not exist. I'm just saying that there are two realities that service the needs of their respective populations, and just because one of those populations spends its free time buying pickup trucks with an AXE® body spray special edition Xbox pre-installed in the dash, and the other one spends its free time reading the economist and volunteering at homes for the disabled, this should not be interpreted as telling either of the sides that it should change its mind. It takes all kinds of people to make the world go around, and all kinds of people to keep applebee's in business.

Your shoulder and chest muscles are strong enough to rip my arm off. The problem is that you need a better grip, like the kind you would get from having broader, stronger fingers. They are just pliers.

They are fingers. They don't make your chest bigger.

Having a 20kg iron brick wrapped round your fist sure helps, though.

Whilst I agree to a certain extent, firstly I'll state that the users of powerfists are probably very accomplished martial artists, and most likely in a mixed capacity, this means that they can use, switch or flow whatever style they want in accordance with the best method of attack with the fist.

Secondly, you're discounting the fist power field, it makes it easy to pull a guys arm off, or crush their head when a power field is doing half the work for you.

Thunderfists only got cuncussive when they hit something, I thought. As in, a powerfist, except when it makes contact it then releases another burst of energy.

I guess one way of framing the question is what would happen, ruleswise in game, if you had a deactivated powerfist. Would it become a "Sx2 Ap-" weapon, or would it become a close combat weapon?

So fist bumping a Necron because of the allies rule that makes no sense with a Power Fist just got a whole lot funnier? I approve!

It was mentioned that the power field would be the damage rather than the the hydraulics. I always thought of the power field more of the AP value of a weapon rather than the damage. I mean if it was just the power field whats the use of having the thing so large? I mean if that were the case wouldn't a power sword add damage rather than AP?
