Thank you very much for every kind word. To be honest, the most important thing about painting is that we can still improve, no matter how much we know. I'm sure that there is a lot to learn for me and I'm at the beginning of my trip to perfection in Freehands. The worst thing you could do is to give up

I ... My lady, I have no words to explain how awe-inspiring your work is. Eck, how inspiring as a whole it is. I've had this idea I really wanted to try to free-hand but I was a bit "Yeah, as if it was gonna work" but after looking at your end result, hell, I have to at least try!

Please, keep posting us goodies!

I was hoping the promised tutorial would help...but if THAT'S how you paint freehand, I'm never gonna do it.

I mean...I know NO-ONE that can sketch like that!

Your stuff is really sweet dude. I like the blue girls on the Jetbikes and the little renaissance woman with the rose freehand (very impressed by this one)

I don't know if you are asking for any critique or advice, but I saw your comment about improving so here goes:

I think what you could focus on is contrast. You're style is quite 2d. If you want to get a little more 3D effect you would have to darken down the shadows a little bit more and the things closest to you the brightest. If the portrait is frontal it would be breasts and face (nose, forehead, and chin) that comes out the most, if 3/4 profile it would be shoulder, elbow depending on the pose. The opposite side you would darken down.

I would suggest thinking about the temperature in you colors (Warm tones where light hits and cold in shadow), as well as reflected lights to make things curve into the depth of your paintings.

You can google most of these things and find good tutorials on how to achieve depth, contrasts and temperature.

if you would like to know if my words are trustworthy or not.

Good luck and I can't wait to see more

@Lazzurus: There are many people who have a lot more talent but really thank you for the compliment. As for freehands, Iwill put some tips for simpler projects that will be easier to use. I'm going to paint flowers on Victoria Haley’s robe (WM&H) in the near future.

@lysandestolpe: Everything you wrote is very valuable. It is pure painting theory. I wondered over my FreeHands recently and came to similar conclusions. I definitely need a better contrast and more vibrant colors. Especially since FreeHands on standards are less visible among many models and terrain. Thanks for the constructive criticism from a professional

Wow, just...wow. I'm mostly just a lurker on this site, I post every once and a while but I tend to just look at peoples work or read their posts. For this thread however I felt quite compelled to login and post.

Lucrezzia your work is amazing, and most importantly inspirational. I've wanted to try freehand for a long time but to be honest didn't know where to start. Reading over your tutorial really helped get the pieces to fit.

Thnak you for sharing your work with us and I look forward to seeing much more of it soon.

Long time no see but I'm quite busy :(

First things first! Some more models speed-painted for my husband's Cygnar:

My pride and joy, Eldar Farseer. Still not a showcase level but I feel that I'm making some progress
If you are interested, I could prepare quick tutorial on how to paint Eldar runes.

Thank you all for opinions!
Arkhareon: I’m curious about your doubts
When it comes to choosing a theme I just love to draw people. Painting nature (landscapes and animals) never seemed interesting. Since I can remember I drew princesses, fairies, warriors. After time there were also androids, women with mechanic parts and various mutations (Slaaneshi, mmm). I also like to paint men but during my short career of miniatures painting I never had occasion. I chose my gorgon theme for Eldar because I wanted to make a coherent project for fun. Banners for Raven Guards were ordered to be associated with the work of E.A. Poe. Women in a state of decay really fit in here! Meanwhile, hussar banners were ordered by my husband (he likes this kind of stuff).
This does not mean that I don’t have willingness to paint something else. I have an idea to make Chinese dragons on Tau for example ^^

I just thought your beautiful freehands (some-Eldars) would be more suited to purely Fantasy army than in a technological world W40K (despite the mythology of Eldars). But you remember - this is just one opinion dictated by personal preference. It's not important for your work. After all, I admire your freehand, are simply amazing. So good luck to the next job, I will follow this thread :-).

Ah I thought you find my work monothematic and I'd have to agree with you because it's true: D
Every opinion and every comment / criticism is important to me. I want to be good at my work and know what pleases others. This is what gives satisfaction Warhammer 40k is sci-fi but on the other hand is a world full of superstitions, miracles and strange creatures.
Hmm ... What would you like to see as freehand?

I would always chose a theme related to a particular race/model. For example, you mentioned the Chinese dragon at the Tau would be beautiful painting, but not suitable for extraterrestrial race. On the other - an alien creature painted in the style of a Chinese dragon art, it would be very cool .
