My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

Well, that's working as intended! With some types of characters I like to play in what I'd consider the norm for their likes, and what some players think are "cool" deviations from said paths I often perceive as special snowflakes (example: Light Side Sith - for some reason the concept alone makes me think of sparkling vampires).

Basically, I always try to have my characters "fit in" with the normal population of a setting, and then work from there in terms of individualising them for a unique result. For example, my Imperial Agent's backstory sort of describes her as a cold-hearted jerk - because I firmly believe that the Empire's secret service is no place for kindhearted idealists who have no problem disobeying orders. At the same time, however, it still contains potential for fun conversations, and a bit of drama concerning her origins and how she became what she is now. You could say I believe in the concept of working within established borders, using frames established by a character's origin and profession to create something that (hopefully) doesn't appear out of place whilst still being interesting.
.

Okay, first: I did not know you could post bios of your characters to a website like that. Is that just for your guild or is that an official website? Second: Very nice write-up. Third: but... but... I play a Light Side Sith ... Only one, though. My other Imp side characters are evil, very evil, very very evil, or completely neutral. Fourth: I love that part in Darksaber! Daala was the only really enjoyable thing about that whole book.

Thanks! Not a guild nor an official page, though - that wiki is just one of the many roleplaying projects that sprung up when TOR launched. I'm not even sure how frequented it is anymore, but it was a nice place to host a bit of background. I know a couple of MMOs that have similar community projects, such as STO or Champions Online. Stuff like that helps to get settled in, so looking for such websites is one of the first things I'd recommend to anyone joining an MMORPG.

Regarding Light Side Sith, I guess I always found it ... hard to justify how they would still stick around the Empire. What are your thoughts on how to balance one's affiliation with morals; how exactly is your character "wired"?

And yeah, Daala was badass. A shame she got constantly written into no-win scenarios like Darksaber - still, credit for sorting out the post-Palpatine Imperial mess goes mostly to her. Pellaeon's reformed government and, much later, the resurgent Fel Empire would not have been possible without her "taking care" of all the squabbling warlords that were pulling the Remnant apart.
Spoiler:

The Expanded Universe had some pretty cool characters.

My LS Inquisitor believes in the idea of the Empire (centralized authority with a lot of power) as opposed to the chaos of the Republic (a Senate paralyzed by competeing interests, systems and sectors looking out for themselves in detriment to the betterment of the whole government, etc). She fully recognizes that the Empire, as it stands, is run by lunatics (and there is actually in-game dialogue to this effect between a LS Inq and Ashara) but she hopes to change the system by building a power base dedicated to the just application of power (rather than personal gain or the lulz). Given all of the infighting that other Sith deal with, she expects to win by simply outliving all the idiots. If things got bad for her, she could flee the Empire and strike out on her own (not neccessarily joining the Republic) but that would mean abandoning her supporters and subordinates to the kind of crazy pants that runs the Empire, and she feels too obligated to them to do that. She can save herself, but she can't save them, so she stays to protect them.

And yes, Daala rules.

That sounds reasonable enough, though I always imagined that it is pretty tough to resist the lure. De-evilising the Empire seems fairly impossible (at least without crushing it first, a la Nazi Germany), but that's not to say that some people may not be idealistic enough to try anyways - especially given how the average Imperial citizen seems to grow up believing their way is the right way.

How did she stay "sane"? The Korriban Academy is a pretty awful place - or is she a fallen Jedi, Revan-style, who simply did not grow up surrounded by sadism and indoctrination?

I admit I stayed away from politics with my own Force users. My Jedi is still a Padawan, and my Sith is a "duelist" who works for other Sith Lords rather than having influence herself. The perfect tool, if you need a rabid dog to maul someone.

@lynata: Your agent character is a real cutie .

As far as jedi go they just seem to be too OP in some of the EU from what I've heard. I don't know it as well as you but it's almost like in dragon ball z when a chunk of the characters become totally irrelevant. Apparently luke skywalker becomes jesus Christ super-star or something in the lore I heard.

I'd just like more kill-able jedi or space marines for that matter.

Speaking of which I mostly hate jedi and sith for their massive extremes. The good vs evil struggle is just so basic it's ridiculous. There is no gray area or light gray vs dark gray. The other problem is that the popularity of jedi is just so ridiculously high just like space marines. I'd rather hear less about them. I suppose it's always something for me. For instance in fantasy I tend to hate elves but more for their arrogant and snobbish behavior.

The idea I ran with was that she survived Korriban by being smarter and more charismatic than her peers. Rather than try to compete directly with the other students (which she would not have been good at) she identified the weakest acolytes in her age group, and got them all working together (watching each others' backs, training together, undermining the efforts of the more sadistic acolytes, etc) to present a united front against the other students. While some of her group didn't survive their time on Korriban, those that did survive became her first followers after graduation. Her reason for going against the grain of the Sith was due to her resentment at being forcibly taken from her family and sent to Korriban. As an act of defiance, she refused to let herself be twisted into the kind of people who usually come out of Sith academies (it also helped that, having been born a slave, she already had a dislike for sadists, bullies, and jerks and had no desire to become one).

Very true! Female smuggler is the best - that voice is literally oozing impudence.

I think the voice actors were all very well chosen. Darth Baras, the Sith Warrior's Master, is an excellent examle for this even applying to the NPCs.

I personally prefer Darth Zash. She reminds me of a Corgi puppy.

It depends on the author. And apparently a lot of fans weren't happy with it. One of the things that Timothy Zahn did in his - chronologically speaking - last pair of books (he wrote more books later, but they were set pre-Empire Strikes Back) was to explain that Luke using so much more power than Yoda or Obi-Wan ever did was a Bad Thing(tm).

It's not totally F2P though. It has the most limited F2P system currently out there and puts F2P players at a significant disadvantage.
