The walls shook as a loud boom reverberated throughout the facility. Arfiel was in the midst of finishing the last demon as it happened, finishing with a series of fast slashes across the chest and neck.
'The hell was that?'
'Beats me. Didn't sound healthy though.' Without more chattering demons, the corridor seemed far too quiet. Arfiel noted the distinct smell of ozone and charred flesh joined to his gift. He was wondering just why when h noticed Rynn kneeling over the corpse of one of the demons.
'What's up?' He asked as he approached.
'These things...' She began, stopping short. It seemed a stupid thing to say. 'They're not normal, are they?'
'I guess? I don't know.'
'Well, look at the bodies. They're flat. And blocky.'
'It's like a game.' He mused, the faintest line of a smile creeping onto his features.
'So we're in Tron now? Great.'
'No, Tron wasn't a game. I think. Some dude put himself in a computer to remove a virus or something.'
'Wasn't that Total Recall?' She stood, flicking the blood from her sword.
'I don't - '
'Hey, you two.' Hepps pointed ahead. Authrix, having tired of the situation, had proceeded ahead.
'Well gak, that's got be two hundred meters already.' Hepps shrugged as he started walking.
'How far is that?'
'Two hundred meters. Twenty thousand centimeters.'
'Damn metric system.' Hepps muttered, before breaking into a run. The other two just shook their heads before following.
'So, we just keep walking until we find something?' Hepps asked as he caught up.
'It would appear so.'
'And if we don't find anything?' The Dark Angel turned. He tilted his head, shrugged, and started walking again. Arfiel and Rynn looked at Hepps with a shared frown.
'Typical.' He stated. '"Hey guys, let's not think about anything before we go ahead."Just a heads up, you're pretty likely to die in whatever's coming up.' Arfiel laughed.
'How many times have we heard that now?'
'Forty eight. I've been keeping count.'
'Hmm. Forty eight. Yeah, I think we can handle ourselves.' Hepps just kept walking.
'Suit yourselves.'
After several minutes of walking, two flights of stairs and a broken elevator, Authrix stopped suddenly.
'What-'
'Shh. Movement ahead.' For a moment, everything was silent. Then two voices broke out ahead, then another.
'Good, bad?'
'Neutral.' Authrix stated. 'They may shoot us on sight, they might not.' Rynn smiled.
'Then we'll have to make sure everything's loaded before we say hello, won't we?' Authrix nodded.
'You heard her, lock and load.'
