As the only IoM armies I like are Carchardons, who are Desperate Allies with everyone, and Minotaurs, who are Desperate Allies with other SM armies, it doesn't bother me much at all. Space Sharks give no feths about anyone between them and thier target, and Minotaurs are hated on for being what the Space Puppies wish they could be.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

GK should not be battle bros with anyone except maybe inquisition. They should prolly be desperate allies even with the Imperium. Marines have stabbed enough Guard commanders in the back that the IG should be wary a la allies of convenience. The marine chapter tactics should clarify each chapter's particularly hated or loved ally. Inquisition and Assassins often have their own motives so allies of convenience would work there too.

Battle bros just opens up too much potential for synergy and imba force multipliers, just adding more and more available units to any codex.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Eldar and DE shouldn't be battle brothers.

Yeah. As an Eldar I can tell you there's so much less value in that brotherhood that I'd rather see all BBs gone rather than all BBs staying.

Either way... the Imperium is always going to be getting all the toys, that's how it goes.

What faction would be more BB than DE and CW Eldar? Even Marine chapters split hundreds of generations ago, but DE/CW split just a couple generations ago. Sure, they hate their brothers often with an intensity the lesser races could never imagine, but blood is thicker than water and all that...

Chaos Marines or Traitor Guard with Demons might be as close, but that's about it.

(And DE don't have a hate on for all Pskers ever. Only Vect ever successfully messed with a Shadowseer, and that was only once. And DE forbid other psykers inside the Webway to hide from Slanesh, not because they think Psyker powers are inherently 'dirty'. Even if they did, that wouldn't exactly stop them...)

When people told me that the Dark Eldar and Eldar were buddies in 6th edition, I thought they were joking. My impression from 3rd edition was that they were polar opposites, with the Eldar viewing the Dark Eldar the same way that Space Marines view Chaos Marines.

It is quite impossible to properly balance battle brothers. Because for all intents and purposes they are just another unit in your army list. So while units might be appropriately costed and internally balanced for one codex, there's almost certainly no process to balancing all the permutations of IoM armies.

I just don't think the ally system in its incarnation since 6th is all that elegant, and I'd like a new system that is easier to make tweaks to...right now it's either casual acquaintance army teams or an awesome team using their wonder twin powers to abuse the rules.

Yeah definitely think that the IoM just get way too much options from the matrix as is. Yeah I get it and it fits some of the fluff. Also completely ignores other parts of it.

But I just see it as another stack of the deck in their favour over anyone else that ain't IoM.

If we want to have a fair chance, then split it up. Or at least let the Xenos/Chaos guys have a similar range in allies.

It's not going to win a game, but can basically pull any tactic they need out of the bag pre-game in ally form. Servo Skulls, GK allies, Knights, Gunline tanks, Drop pod 1st turn assaults.

Not sure how they would fix it, but would be good to not feel like the red-headed-step-child of the universe.

Great lets punish the already weakened codex for fluff reasons...

The problem you guys seem to forget is that GW doesn't care about fluff in game. Hell they barely care what you play at all!
