An Emperor's Sword joins the ranks:

According to Lexicanum 2 Chapters have borne the Emperor's Swords moniker and both have been destroyed in the 41st Millenium. This battle brother is the sole survivor of the second chapter, whose homeworld turned out to be a dormant Necron tomb world. While he was on secondment with the Deathwatch, the Necrons awoke. As far as is known, he is the sole surviving member of the Chapter. Consequently, he has been given dispensation to keep not just his right shoulder pad, but also his Storm Shield in his chapters heraldic colours. The scrolls attached to his backpack are a list of every member of the Emperor's Blades lost in the homeworld's destruction.

This particular marine came from numerous Ravenwing bits I had lying around and not knowing what to do with them until browsing Lexicanum's list of loyalist Chapters and discovering that neither iteration of the Emperor's Swords had established colour scheme and iconography, but certainly posessed cool back stories for a DW member. Given that Ravenwing symbols are actually pretty similar to those of the Emperor's Children and the similar nomenclature of the Swords to former glory boys of the Imprium I thought to go with the EC's purple as the base colour, but replace their gold trim with silver; a nod to potential origins (we all suspect/know the High Lords of Terra have tried to utilise the geneseed of Traitor Legions in the past...).

khrayunn - thank you very much. Make sure you post yours up when they're done., I'm sure folks would love to see them.

What is the black paint you are using and the grey highlight? It's a nice smooth black that seems to be a great shade and not too black or too grey.

Veteran Sergeant Dacian:

He sports a number of fangs from various Tyranid creatures as trophies commemorating successful engagements with the foul species. The eye catching, if rather incongruous and impractical, skull trophy atop his back pack belonged to a Tyranid Prime from a tendril of Hive Fleet Kraken that his Deathwatch Kill Team stalked through the jungles of a Death World. Dacian bested the beast in hand to hand combat with a ferocity that his men reported was extraordinary to behold. While every space marine hates all xenos and descendents of the Ultramarines have a particular hatred for Tyranids, nothing quite compares to the vitriolic loathing the sons of Sotha feel for the Hive Fleet that so nearly exterminated them. A discussion was had with him about removing the skull during combat engagements. Suffice to say it has remained in place, a symbol of the vengeance and righteous fury that burns within Dacian, a testament to his prowess as a warrior and the beginning of a collection that indicates he's just getting started.

I botched the placement of the white dot on his helmet lens, but I feel like that's pretty much the only flaw here I think. Kudos to Anvil Industry's hand sprue for making the left-handed gun easy to do.

40k wiki has little on these guys beyond a name and colour scheme, which makes them great for someone like me attempting to ensure my Deathwatch members are reasonaby diverse and not wholy mainstream.

And another one, this time from made up chapter the Gryphons Rampant.

Intially started as a Golden Griffon, but then I actually checked on them having seen the name and the Chapter symbol is completely different. The stalker is an older version of the Anvil Negotiator rifle. and I broke the preferred barrel so cut it down to just used the tip. Also left the racking (? if that's what you can call it) on the main body to which attachments can be mounted, so this one looks a little different to the other one my Raptor hasAfter abortive attempts to get a convincing left handed firing pose I've tried to make him look like he's adjusting his scope

Thank you, next time I shall know. Yeah, I'm really not very impressed with the GW Stalker bolter, so I'm glad this alternative exists.

Cheers, man. I feel like with 1,000 Chapters out there that Deathwatch kill teams should consists of more than just the first founding ones and it's fun to root around for lesser known ones to represent. I've got Kill Team Cassius, but only to cannibalise for parts; find it very difficult not to convert everything! Good luck with it.

Latest addition to the ranks:.

He belongs to the Revenants of Maccrage who I've made up because I wanted to use this Ultra pad I've had knocking around forever, but not for an Ultramarine and then noticed the similarity with the symbol on the DW:O Ultra's backpack; hey, that's some chapter iconography right there. The idea behind them is that they were founded in honour of those that fell during the Tyrannic War iusing a few Tyrannic War veterans as their basis and are almost solely used to hunt and destroy tyranid hive fleet tendrils that threaten systems that can be saved

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Hi Creed, it's basically layering outwards, using an off-white to create the successive layers.

The specific process is:
1) Basecoat with Vallejo Game Colour Night Blue
2) layer of 50/50 VGC Night Blue/ VGC Imperial Blue
3) Layer of oure VGC Imperial Blue
4) Add increasing amounts of VGC Glacier Blue to do successive layers, final edge highlight of pure VGC Glacier blue to finish . I usually do about 5 -6 layers from Imperial Blue to Glacier.

Where did you get the shoulder pad from for that Star Phantom? Or is it sculpted?

Ah, if only I could sculpt like that...

It's from Plokoone's Bits on Shapeways. He no longer does this due to being busy, but I was able to ask for a custom set of 10 different chapter pads. He does full sets of Star Phantoms if that's what you want.

Crimson Scythes Mortis Dreadnought:

For some reason the highlights on the torso really aren't showing up well and I clearly used different size drill bits on the heavy bolter barrels (prep was done intermittently over a few months) As ever with a big hunk of FW resin, edge highlighting wasn't always the easiest task.

Pretty happy with the end result, though, it seems like exactly the type of thing the Deathwatch would deploy against foul xenos threats.
