Why are we comparing today's armed forces capabilities? The only branches that are doing serious vehicle hauling is the US Air Force, Jingle trucks, contract cargo aircraft's, and contract vehicle cargo ships during OIF/OEF. Actually the same still applies for Afghanistan currently (Karachi Seaport which vehicles are Jingle trucked in through border points of Spin Budak and Chaman , Bagram Airfield and Kandahar Airfield where heavy vehicles are flown in where they are either convoyed out and if possible fitted in a C130 heading...........
Bastion/Leatherneck

Going to ASSUME they were all run by Navy because I cannot see Coast Guard operating a LST.

Good thing that terrain dictates being if it was terrain similar to Europe then UN forces would have been out right screwed. Back in that time it was Infantry work.

actually the USCG Did operate LST's and all the way up to destroyers, at least during WWII NO idea if that carried over to the Korean war. BTW My wife Is still AD USCG

IN regards to one of the questions I posted earlier about the marines and 7th infantry holding onto Wonsan harbor. I personally think they either would have taken significant pressure off the 8th army because the Chinese would have had to secure their supply lines before advancing and it would have caused the war to come to a stalemate on a friendlier line for the UN Forces. the biggest pitfall to this operation would be the reliance on ROK forces to hold the line that was eventually occupied by the retreating X Corps. At the same time thought, reserve units in PUSAN could have been moved up to stabilize the line while more troops were transported from the US/UK and other UN countries. in the end I think the UN would have been better off if MacArthur had left the X corps way up the peninsula.

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

You have to look at the road maps of the Korean War

Wonsan Landing was blocking off the Eastern side of the Korean Peninsula route of logistical support and lines of communications . Not only for units close to the Eastern side of the Korean Peninsula but North Korean units located in the middle of the Korean Peninsula.

10th Corp was stretched to the limit and was withdrawn to stiffen 8th Army who were a bit depleted and stretched to the limit.

Have to remember all the main road networks were the focal point to control a given area. Not only that but control of the ridge lines and mountain tops were hotly contested. There were two man road artery to Wonsan that China and North Korea could have used to take Wonsan that would really have put a major crimp in UN forces coming down from Chosin if "Red Force" blocked at Wonsan and attacked up to Hungnam
