I just learned about this competition. Unfrotunately I have to work out something in the last hours and here is my Idea for an army. Please note that ths was written in a hurry. My english is not fluent, so apologies for bad english:

13th Saint Emiline redeemers aka the Saint Regiment.

Based on the background of a real saint from lexicanum:
Saint Emiline was a citizen of the Imperium who, in M40, gave her life to recapture the world of Emiline's Hope from the forces of Chaos. The planet was subsequently named in her honour when she was declared as a Saint. Her bones are interred at the Order of the Bleeding Hearts abbey on the planet, and reclaiming Emiline's bones became a central feat in the tale of Sister Martika.

M41

Knowledge of this saint is too little, but the citizens of the Shrine World Emilines Hope, guard it well (uknown segmentum, Yarena system). Centuries of piligrimage from the local planets, mark the glorious deeds of the saint a millenia ago. Now in the 41 millenium, the cult is the only Emperyan presence from PDF that is left to the sector, so Astra Militarium decide to form a local regiment force that will recruit from the neighborhood forces.

3 Regiments were drilled and called the 1st 4th and 13th Emiline Regiments. They were supposed to guard the sector and the shrine world.
Hoewever, the Chaos apeteties for this shrine world seems that never stops and a horrible, dark plot was at hand... A rumor started to spread that the Saint was reborn. At this time the sector was in relative peace, and Saints ususaly reborn in time of great struggle. That was the reason of misbelief, but when the Saint revelead herself on the shrine world thousands and hundreds of piligrims rushed to meet the Saint. Local nobles come to see her and quickly became part of hers inner circle and teachings. And the 1st and 2nd Regiment were sent there in case of a riot or even worse scenarios.

Evil Plot is at hand
The saint was... beatiful. But many people forget the old Terra Proverb recorded in the chronicles of Ursh and Merica that: The way to hell is made from good intentions. A large festival in the name of the Saint was held in the name of the saint. At the culmination of the Festival the Saint delcreared that she is gonna make a public prayer. And at this moment the Saint Showed her true colors as servant of the reunions powers. A warp gate was openened and the powers quickly, like a bomb virus started to taint the thousand of pilirgrims that believed in her... now they believed in the warp. Thusand of innocent souls turned into barbaric and frenzied creatures. The Regiments were ordered to open fire and then the Emiline Massacre begin...
Afther the Massacre the regiments moral was so low and half the planet was in the proces of being corrputed. From the horrible warp gate a thousand legions of the The Lost and The Damned started to flood in. Even warbands of the most horrible Chaos Marines were spoted. The 2 regiments dug in, but it was about time to break down. Then the Chaos offered their "mercy" - the 2 regiments must turn traitor or die.

The Saint
The 13th Regiment was sent to deal with the horrible manace that struc the sector. But upon the battle the odds were 3:1. It was then in a major fight in the outskirts of the shrine city, when the batteries of the lasguns were depleted, a female soldier named Emiline shouted to her comrades "Straight Silver, let's knife them to death one of us kill 3 of them". That was a true moment of manifestion of the Emperors own power into a mortal human. Emiline was embraced by light that blindend all. When the Loyalists opened their eyes they saw angel wings that leads them into a fight that looks like a victory.

Redeemers

The shaken soldiers of the 13th regiment, regrouped and inspired by the Miracle, consolidated their forces and charged into a counter attack. Bullets were flying, but somehow did not hit them when the Saint was around. Emilne charged from flank to flank, sloughering chaos servants and space marines alike. Faith and a miracle were not enought to win vs such overlwhleming odds. It was then when the traitors, stunned by shame from their own betrail, hit back their new masters from the rare. The presence of the saint was so strong and they felt redeemed! The 1st and 4th regiment fought the choas untill the last man....

In the end of this cataclismic conflict that no one heard of , the Saint managed to close the Gate, and that cost her life. What remained from the chaos forces was not killed thou. The power of the Emperors presence were so strong that they were all cleared by the taint. From this glorious battle only 13th regiment survived. Now they are known as the Emiline Redeemers and they are sworn to guard the Shrine World for eternity.

Bla bla ... .such a stupod story written in a hurry. Hope you like it thou.

The Palmyrean Dispossessed are an Imperial Guard regiment, raised from the shattered remnants of the local defense forces, civilian auxilia, and chapter serfs of the now-extinct Imperial Repudiators space marine chapter.

The hive planet of Palmyrea, homeworld of the Repudiators, was the site of a massive Ork Waaagh! in M39. Understrength and woefully outnumbered, the Repudiators nevertheless fought fiercely to defend the civilian populace they had sworn to protect. In a series of lighting raids and daring ambushes, culminating in a climactic battle at their mountainous fortress monastery, the Repudiators decapitated the Ork leadership, slaying the Waaagh!’s chief warboss and the next 14 sub-bosses down the chain of command. The cost however was high – when an Imperial relief fleet, dispatched at the 11th hour by the Ordo Xenos arrived in system, the last of the Repudiators had fallen almost 2 weeks ago.

The relief fleet spent the next 3 months exterminating the remaining orks (who had characteristically fallen into infighting) and relieving the isolated pockets of human survivors. On his deathbed, Inquisitor Tam Sender summoned the surviving leaders of the Palmyrean defense forces and upper caste chapter serfs. In recognition for their valor and sacrifice, the inquisitor was willing to grant them a boon. They immediately requested that they be raised and recognized as an Imperial regiment, deployed to the nearby Pericles cluster, and to fight in the on-going Dysnomian crusade. There, 50 years ago, elements of the Imperial Repudiators 5th company had gone missing while prosecuting the crusade. Though given up for dead more than half a century ago, the Palmyreans were adamant in their request. The chapter had perished defending their world, and if there existed the faintest chance that a Repudiator still lived, the Palmyreans would continue to serve. Moved by their request, the inquisitor sealed the edict raising the Palmyrean Dispossessed as an imperial regiment, before breathing his last.

Having lost the industrial base and manufactora of their homeworld, the Palmyrean Dispossessed are supplied by the Munitorum and so mostly resemble any other line regiment of the Imperial Guard. Only two things about them are worth bearing notice:

First, their sky grey uniforms and black carapace armor mirror the traditional Palmyrean PDF attire, which in turn derived from the armor of the Repudiator. No manner of threats or wheedling can get them to alter their uniforms in any shape or form.

The second is their loyalty and devotion to their former lords. The Dispossessed go into battle bearing cracked helmets and ruined weapons of the Repudiators, lovingly scavenged from the battlefield of their home planet, and venerated as sacred relics. The regiment itself is organized into 10 battalions, mirroring the 10 battle companies of the Repudiators. Each is charged to maintain the traditions and oral histories of their patron battle company, until such a time as their lords are found again. It is not uncommon for soldiers and sometime whole platoons to venerate fallen Repudiators – for example, 3rd platoon, F Company, 2nd battalion is famous for their devotion to Battle-brother Hasmiel, who fell in battle defending a refugee convoy from ork raiders. Almost half the platoon can claim descent from a refugee saved by Brother Hasmiel, and the company’s highest honor is to bear a tooth from Hasmiel’s chainsword.

How about an army where the men are the size of the borrowers just with extremely powerful tech! Would be difficult to paint (unless you used epic models).

Their back story would be interesting. No matter how many people colonise a seemingly unihabited planet, they find their warmachines attacked and soldiers slaughtered yet can't place the enemy!

---------------------------------------

I'd also like the idea of an army of monsters. For those of you who have read the first Dark Angels Horus Heresy novel they could be like the Beasts of Caliban. In fact they would make an interesting element to any game. As well as scenery that has random traps, you could have random monsters or even herds of creatures that seriously affect game play and attack both sides. There could be some basic rules that determine how they move, if they attack etc.

e.g within 10" of a unit - Charge - else run in a random direction.

There could even be special rules where the "Beasts" are drawn to certain objectives as well due to the nature of them, and they can cancel out both sides ability to secure the objective.

I would not be surprised if alot of people had this idea but what about an Undead Space Army?

The army could have a large miniature in a Shouded hood and encased in ancient looking power armor. Squads could be made up of corpses of dead Space Marines - Chaos and Loyal, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tau, Orks. Armor would be tanks of every race all torn up and rusting and emmitting an eerie eldritch glow from holes and rents in the armor. Imagine Skeletal Space Marines on bikes alongside Eldar Corpses on Jetbikes? Dreadnoughts with their forward section torn open and the Space Marine clawing out the front of the Sagophagus???? Even using miniatures from Fantasy such as Giants and such for Heavies, making them all decaying and undead? The storyline would be that there are many reports of a large and dark starship arriving at planets after a major battle and that the honoured dead or all the races involved are disappearing. Space marines, Eldar, Orks, Tyranids..Eyeryone well except Necron.

I know the Necrons are basically an undead army but to actually see skeletal Space Marines, Eldar, Tau or zombie ones with huge rents in their armor and guts hanging out all in one army??? Priceless!!!!

I know i would love to buy and gather such an army!

Tim (Deathguard633)

P.S. this is a shameless plug but Mortarion would look really awesome in my Deathguard Army. His colors even Match. My picture under my name is a custom built Nurgle War Altar from the days of the Citadel Magazine.

I've always liked the idea of a fantasy army that is more of a "American style" social melting pot. I'm taking about things like dwarves and elves and humans and other such fantasy races fighting alongside each other within the same unit.

And I don't mean a ragtag band of misfits either. I'm thinking of a small, fiercely independent nation which has a small but legit army with banners and such.

I've wanted to see a Mass Effect style WH40K team, led by an inquisitor. The team should include models from each of the 40K races, Eldar, Tau, Ork mercenaries, Space Marines. All tied together with the same uniform colors. Could be used as counts as inquisitorial henchmen. Anyway, I think it would be a unique looking project that doesn't require a ton of conversion work or expensive models. I would like to see it.
