Your troopers are looking very nice in that group shot, keep up the good stuff!

I like the Mk 4 carbines (actually prefer those sculpts myself) and the Calth plasma and carbines are nice touches!

Plasma glow - I feel like current colour is too close to their uniform. Vejut may be onto something re. violet style - I was going to suggest blue myself!

Excellent progress on this platoon. You are moving along.

I think the plasma effect looks good, with it being a very bright color that looks like it is glowing. But I agree with Vejut and Ragsta that the bright green does not contrast with the uniforms as much as I personally like. I agree a bright yellow could work. Or you could go for a stronger contrast. I would think about if there were any other high contrast colors used in the army as spot colors that could work, such as a color you are using for power swords or tank icons or goggle lenses or something. I always think it is better to err on the side of too few colors used in an army than too many and keep a fairly limited range of color, which is what your army mostly has so far. I normally use one color for plasma, power weapons, etc. just to keep it consistent as the bright contrast color, but that is just my personal opinion.

The army is looking great. Keep it up.

Vejut wrote:I'd suggest a violet/magenta kinda purple, as thats opposed to the yellow and yellow green you're mostly using, but it'd be the only areas of that color in the squad, so I think it'd really stick out? Maybe go with bright yellow, as you're kinda got the harness in that color but its more subdued and you're got less of it to blend with, or just push the green up more towards white? Not sure.

I will give a look in violet or purple when I get the chance to see the hobby store again! I think that would be a great contrasting color for the green uniforms. I think that's a great suggestion!

Thank you! I am pretty happy with how the group of them look now! 30 auxilia down, 100s to go!
I do love the look of the Mk 4 carbines as well. It's a slightly different look than the M36s that the regular Cadians have. I'm looking into finding different plasma guns to get a hold of. I would love to find copies of the Elysian special weapons, but that will be a tough find.

Yes! Vejut's suggestion of purple is really growing on me as I give it some thought. The only problem with blue is I don't know if GW makes a blue glaze anymore. I heard that was an easy hack to get a easy blue glow.

Yes! I agree with the change to future plasma gunners. I used the green because it was the only color I had on hand at the time that could create an easy glow look. I'm looking into different approaches now. As for future power weapons I was thinking along the same lines and keeping glows all the same. It helps keep a uniform look which helps especially with them being a Guard army.

Thank you! I appreciate it. Progress is slow at times, but I'm happy to keep seeing the army grow.

Looking good boxhead. I think vejut is right; if you want a strong contrast then magenta could look really cool, if you want it to stand out but not be quite so in your face, then pushing the glow further would work too. I’d go with more white over yellow though. Good luck with the decision

Thank you!

Yes, I'm leaning with the contrasting color for the plasma against the green uniforms of the troopers. I may try using a thinned purple contrast paint on a white basecoat to achieve a quick and simple look. Similar in method to the old Gulliman Blue glaze method.

Hello everyone! I know it's been a long break, but I have finally got some new work done!

So I have run into the problem that I'm starting to use up all of my Anvil Industry arms and loose lasguns. While I would love to just order more and find more rifles, this option comes at a high price tag.
After looking back on several forums like Warseer and images floating around Instagram, I decided to mock up a test trooper using the tank commander torso. I felt that this would still give a "light infantry" look even with the shoulder pads.

While not a complete fan of shoulder pads, I feel that this style of build will work better for me moving forward. It will allow me to burn through more bitz that I have been hoarding while keeping the unit in a uniform look. It may be near impossible to find this many tank commander torsos, but I have a found some sources of find suitable stand ins for this "dress uniform" torso at a cheaper price than ordering dozens of sets of arms again from Anvil.

While not completely happy with it, the look is starting to grow on me and I'm excited to see the infantry company grow again!

Moving forward I am still searching for a suitable plasma gun bit and paint scheme, as well as, other bits to make the force reflect some more of the nastier sides of patrolling the slums of the their mega-city.
Shame the traitor militia arms aren't available anymore!

Shame about the running out of bits, but he's looking suitably light with just the shoulder pads

Yes, its good to be back!

Shame about the bits too. I really like Anvil, but for an infantry army that price point is steep.
Yeah the look wasn't my first option, but definitely has grown on me.

Hey guys!

Got some little updates for y'all.
This week I was able to glue on some arms and assemble some new things!

First up is the next batch of bolter equipped sergeants. This will give me the squad leaders for my first six infantry squads!

Next up is the start of something large. I know that for the concept of my army I wanted it to be a infantry themed force and that I wanted to keep it fairly lore friendly. Typically, Imperial Guard units aren't combined arms formations like in today's militaries. This is to keep units organized and trained easier, as well as, minimize the damage of a unit going rouge. I feel many people forget this and have infantry and armor organic to each other in their lore. I am kind of breaking this rule in the sense that I'm adding this beast...

Imperial Guard infantry units are allowed to have transports and walkers join them and this is technically a walker. I'm trying to get some head canon around it. I'm think that a Squat engineer joins the battle group on the crusade and convinces the leadership to allow certain troopers to become pilots to this machines of this old guild before their fall to the Hive Fleets. All WIP like the walker, but I'm sure I'll write something nice up!

Next up is a squad of conscripts!

These guys are from Wargames Atlantic and I thought they were the perfect fit for my army. Very minimal on the bodies and weapons. I opted to give them field caps. I’m going to paint them in varied colors. Trying out greys, khakis, and blues. Common working colors to simulate people at home in a hab block or dock hard workers.

Last in this long post of WIP minis is The Inquisitor, that is following the activities of my regiment...

I shamelessly stole this conversion idea from osjclatchford. You should all check out his blog on here for great IG/AM conversions and a very unique looking army!

As the photos stated, I did some small bitz conversions to the model and plan on doing some additions to the crossbow. I found some more heroic scale heads on Shapeways I'm looking at ordering for her to finish the mini off.

Also, I have some bitz and other parts on the way to help round out the rest of the infantry and hopefully a majority of the first phase of this army will be done! Still have ideas for officers and characters floating around in my head that I would like to see go from concept to tabletop, but only time will tell.

Til next time guys!

Over the past two days I have working on this conversion and even got it fully painted. I just finished the base, but took these photos beforehand. I promise it's done!

The mini is the void master from the Kill Team Rouge Trader boxset I picked up while living in Korea several years ago now. I put the mini together, but never got around to painting him. I chopped the arm up and glued an Anvil Industry arm on and filled the gap with green stuff. Next I took the power sword from the Cadian Command Squad (the one being held by a bionic arm) and fixed it to an Anvil Industry hand. The last part was replacing the las pistol with a bolt pistol and adding some ammo to the back to cover cut marks.

Painting was pretty tough on me. For starters the details on the base model were so small compared to normal stuff I've painted. I screwed up so many times trying to get all the details right.
But in the end it all worked out. Also, it was hard getting all the paints right. My GW starter paints have all dried out, not from the normal reason of it being in a crappy pot, but that's a story for a different time.

He is modelled to be an Imperial Diplomat/Senator being escorted by my Ultramar Auxilia. He will be accompanied by several veterans of the Regiment's Reconnaissance Section... The infamous Pathfinders.
Game wise, he will fill the role of Colonel Ibram Gaunt from the Gaunt's Ghosts datasheet. The rest of the squad will be filled out with several conversions I have planned out.

Hope you guys enjoyed this update! I put a lot of work into it and am super happy with the final product. Only thing I can think of changing would be to use a different base. Maybe and Zone Mortalis or Necrumunda one.

Cheers everyone! Til the next vox-transmission.

Hello everyone it's been a long time since my last post!

My regular life got really hectic really fast and didn't have much time or ability to make progress on my army project, but over the past couple weeks I've been able to find some time to make some progress and here are the updates!

First off I've had to go back to the drawing board when it comes to the trooper design. Unfortunately, the heads I ordered from Shapeways were defected. The faces were not smooth and not to standard. Due to this issue being noticed outside the time period to report it I've had to bin the heads. This is my fault. I should have inspected the heads on arrival and contacted them immediately. This is no way the fault of Golem Games' store. I am still considering ordering from them again, but have doubts about Shapeways manufacturing process for wargaming bitz as this time.

Luckily for me Mad Robot Miniatures released a side cap style head recently and did a test order for a platoon of them.
Below are the Nu-Style troopers.

Also while home at my parent's house, I've discovered more reinforcements for the regiment. Tons of guardsmen and tanks that were left behind years ago when I joined the service.
I spent the last couple nights disassembling these old troopers. Some were easy, but most were tough thanks to being bonded with plastic glue.
I needed to replace the old flak vest Cadian torsos and get a supply of tank crew/dress uniform torsos... Then the idea dawned on me.

Long before 3D printers old hobby heads used to make green stuff or silicone molds. I've noticed these techniques have gone out of date. I mainly noticed them for recreating specific Space Marine shoulder pads. Why couldn't I try doing this for the torso?

The end products I think are good enough for wargaming and pass the battlefield eye test.

Upon closer inspection, some of the torsos would not pass. But I filled the air bubble gaps in the belt lines with liquid green stuff and any larger gaps will be filled out with webbing and equipment pouches. Plus the arms have yet to be added. All in all I think after some additional bitz and decent paint job these troopers will fall in just nicely.

Till the next update guys! Take care

Real life does unfortunately get in the way of fun fantasy life. I really like the look of your guard. The forage caps are really cool. Nice work with the moulding and casting.

Press moulds appear to be great for kitbashing like this, tho I’ve never attempted myself. Yours look decent, and as you say after some kit and a paint job they’ll look good en masse!

Your plasma gunners- did you cut off the thumb on their left hands or do the guns actually fit into the cupped hand without adjustment?

Thanks Olthannon! Yes forage caps are a great alternative to tri-dome helmets. Always mentioned in the lore, but rarely seen on models!

Thank you Rag! Yes, old moulds are still a great tool for kitbashing especially with rare bitz. I'm sure they will shape up good and the troopers will look great!

I haven't worked on any alternate plasma gun troopers just yet! I'm still looking at some alternate guns to use with Anvil arms or just using the stockpile of GW Cadian Command Squad ones!

Hey everyone a quick update. Today PeskyPoleCat over on reddit was able to do a quick photoshop of the new Cadian Shock Troopers with my green on green color scheme.

Still waiting if head swaps will be doable on these new minis. I know GW is trying to get away from all the old style of building minis and moving towards these monopose style designs to get away from 3rd party conversion bitz. Hopefully I'll be able to get a side cap head on them to fall in line with the rest of the force.

I'd say youve no worries there box.

I'll be doing something similar (of course) but with different anvil heads in mind. looking att he latest pics, the heads have options so are definately seperate. Still, as wit the dkok, the heads/necks might need a little work to fit spot on, but yeah. we've just got to convert to live, right?

Cool little photoshop. I think you will have no bother with the new minis. The less bulky kit of these new Cadians should look great with your side caps.

According to pics of the sprues it should be pretty easy to swap heads.

These new GW heads seem very small. Probably more realistic this way, but I don't really like them.
