I voted Patton. I think I was about four years old when I first watched the film of his life, I'm sure I didn't understand half of it, but boy did I love that movie... I drew a stars and stripes, and stuck it to my army helmet when I went out to play (much to my parents' confusion). He's always been one of my favourite historical figures. Although me liking him as a character does not necessarily mean he is "the greatest general"... there was a quote about the third army having advanced further and faster than any army in history... I suspect that isn't completely true, but I'd wager he went further and faster than any American army, so objectively he's got that going for him (though admittedly they didn't all have access to tanks).

It's a good film.

Great film.
Vote military wise:
*Army: Washington-actually kept the army together despite conditions, losses, etc.
*Army: Runner up-Winfield Scott. brain behind both the Anaconda Plan and the invasion of Mexico.
*Corps: or "army": Thomas, Patton, Bradley.
*Division: Abrams
*Most Badass-Chesty Puller, Hancock, James Gavin, Sam Houston (hey had to throw that in).
(Not including IraqI or Iraq II as Iraq I was short, and both are "current events" as it were)
Navy:
*Theater-Nimitz by far
*Fleet -Spruance (my opinion but Halsey is seriously over-rated)
*Fleet runner up: David Farragut.
