Pacific, I find that to be a callous and entirely unwarranted comment.

Comparing poor Jackie with 40K. For shame.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Fancy making a bet on X-Wing being a fad Grot 6?

I would say 40k these days is the worst the game has ever been. It's like an actress that was popular in the 80's, and is now trying to prop up its fading looks with visits to the surgeon. The end result is oversized assets, that look completely out of scale with the rest of her, skin-deep improvements (an ugly person beneath it all) and nothing seems to fit together very well. The doctor promises the next 'job' will fix the faults of the last and make it better, but each one seems to exacerbate previously faults so that we've basically ended up with Sylvester Stallone's mum.

If there is a new version coming (looking at the other thread) it might be worth waiting to see if the rules take a volte-face, because by God they need it. I generally have a game every 6 months or so, pulled back in by the brilliant imagery and the look of some of the miniatures, then about 30 minutes into the game remember why I had stopped playing it before and the army goes back in the box afterwards.

I've not really played much of Warmahordes (other than being spanked in a few short games) but it does seem fairly fun.

X-Wing is a cracking game, easy to pick up, great miniatures, and most importantly fun. The negative point is that it doesn't have the miniature painting and modelling opportunities you can get with other games, although that is mitigated somewhat by people changing their own minis.

We've got a whole forum dedicated to x-wing repaints and conversion not to mention the scratch builds.

Sure you don't have to build for x-wing but you can if you want.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I don't know what type of paint they use on X-Wings, but I like how well paint sticks to it. It's like they are pre primed in a default colour scheme and you can just paint right on it to modify or totally change it. Great for hobbying.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Go for x-wing if you want to play games, the game isn't bad at all and you can start right out of the box.
Go for 40k if you want to kill time painting mini's

Indeed, I'd go for x-wing these days. Its the safest bet.
However, if you like playing jacks or beasts, then go for WMH. The new edition has changed the game a bit, jacks and beasts got a boost.
40k is in a messy state these days. For each army, you need rule book, codex and several supplement books before you decide about models, units, and army list. However, if you like modelling and painting, then 40k is the way to go, since GW makes the best models today.

I could see you going for the RPG or fleet game, instead. It is on par with X wing, but you can get more on the table.

I say X wing is a fad, but I'm not trying to piss on chips here.

I'm getting in on it myself with a local shop that has a couple of boxes at the 30 buck mark now, and some other players that have extras. 2 squadrons, and I have a set- but it is all about a dogfight. You can't go slay too many dragons with a couple of X wings, a couple of tie fighters, and some of those other ones.

THIS guy said that they were looking for a game to play. I was under the information that the guy had one choice. I said to him to get all of them, just get an army each. If I were to go all in on a STAR WARS game, I would go in on the tabletop, and get these other ones as additional, such as the fleet game, the RPG, then the minis. You go all in on Star Wars, you got the whole gambit of RPG to tabletop available. That wasn't the question though. It was limited to X wing, the game itself.

I wouldn't eat it in a box, but I would play the hell out of it and pick it up when people are starting to drop it like they are and I can pick it up for a song and dance, as well as pad my stuff with a squadron. Another guy I spoke to on it said it best- "the game system itself has about 10 or so games in it, WHY stick to just the car ride..."

As for a bet- I'm not going to take your money when we are talking about FFG. Their track record speaks for itself.

There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
