Not at all, it's just a layering process. Building up the detail with layers of different thickness styrene. A Cricut cutter would be best for cutting out the Aquillas from thin stock plastic.

Two quick shots of my setup. Those are contents of two Shadow War boxes, combined with almost all scatter terrain for my (still unpainted) lava/ash wastes board. For normal 40K all those rocks are too much for 6x4 board, but here I still feel it is a bit empty. I'll probably buy some more Mechanicus terrain sets to improve.

Those are still in the process of playtesting and deciding how modular exactly I want Mechanicus terrain to be. More modular looks better (less repetetive visually and breaks this octagonal look a bit) but would be real pain to maintain after painting and would need a bit of tampering with connection methods... Less modular is less troublesome and more sturdy, but looks a bit boring and I feel I'll run out of interesting builds on this table quickly.

Really cool stuff. Like a chem-processing facility at the edge of the sump.

That is a basic idea for this whole table - to be able to make all kinds of different remote drilling sites/factory compounds/abandoned facilities on a barren planet. Ash wastes are my prefered Necromunda setup and they suit Shadow War perfectly - especially since I plan to base my crossover Shadowmunda gangs based on Skitarii and Neophyte Hybrids models.

One thing to consider is many of the components and pipe add-up to the 4-3/4" lengths so rather than using the legs you can incorporate those into holding up the gantry walkways.
If you look back at the pictures of my modular kits, that is what I was doing, I was also adding tube to connect them for extra stability.
Just something to keep in mind if short on supports.

I like the blue on the dome, the purple doesnt look too much out of place at all TBH. I wish I could paint that fast.

Thank you. I was trying new techniques speed painting large terrain on the cheap. All base layers are rattle cans. I washed with ebony Minwax (make sure to stir thoroughly or it will take a long time to dry), drybrushed with various metallics, then picked out details.

I think the purple is ok. a little clashing with so many colors but its a cool effect.

Also decided to nut up and start the project

I like the metal rims on those. I made mine rusty paint-chipped.

How'd you have leftover legs? I cant get my hands on enough of them, and may have to scratchbuild some.

I'll be weathering it once I've finished painting.

I'm building a Armies on Parade board with multiple level catwalks on the side of a building, don't need all the legs, need straight floor sections though.

So, it's been a little while since this thread has seen any love. That being the case, I've finally gotten around to working on some more of my terrain and have a piece ready for your enjoyment.

This little gem is a crane and support gantry. The gantry is made from Mantic urban terrain bits, some of which I had to trade for because there weren't enough in the kit and nobody seemed to be selling them in my area for some reason. Other parts come from the industrial sector box. The foundation is made from pieces of the GW Manufactorum set. The crane itself is from the Galvanic Servohaulers kit.

Fantastic!

I love your use of elevation blocks to mix things up and the bold use of orange on the rust. Quite a looker you've got there.

Thanks guys!

The elevation blocks (risers) work really well to block a lot of those long, ground level LOSs/fire lanes. On this table we also tried to put most of the high level stuff in the center of the table instead of near the edges. This pretty much eliminates the '"death" valley kill zone in the center of the table that results from tall structures along the table edges.

I used a Shield Generator and Stack Tower to make a power generator for my games. I'm saving the other Shield Generator until I get some of those promethium pipes at the end of November.
