You paid 220ish for an MC that could tank more damage than a Warhound Titan. Tau parked in the corner and disintegrated everything with impunity up until super friends death stars hit the table. Do you see where people might think you are spoiled? That's the most likely scenario here. Tau are not performing that poorly, especially on the Dakka battle report thread. 8 pt firewarriors rock the house.

Here's the thing though: People who play All-Terminator, All-Bike, All-whatever lists (Unless it's purchased purely for being The New Competitive Hotness) are used to it not being 100% optimal all the time.
The guy I know who's always played all Deathwing is super happy with 8th because he can legally play all deathwing - he knows it's not incredibly competitive but he likes terminators. The guy who has always played all Haemonculus covens is happy because again, not an amazing list, but he's gained a few tricks and improvements.
It's only the dudes who went out and bought an all-bike Eldar army or an all big suit Tau army wholesale mid-7th and painted them to 3 color minimum with an airbrush who are salty with the 8th changes. Because TBH they liked being big fish in a little pond, any time they went to big tournaments they were clobbered by serious competitive players with their cookie cutter netlists.
The only relatively casual spam-list player I know who is justifiably pissed about 8th is the guy who played an all-dreadnought list. And that's because he had purchased, built, and painted EIGHT official GW drop pods for his army and now he has absolutely no models that can use them (The only power armored models he has are flamer-and melta-armed tactical and sternguard squads because he runs a dragon themed custom chapter.)
And I don't blame him. He got 100% fethed by 8th, and I'm reeeeeally hoping that the clusterfeth that is drop pods gets fixed later this month in the marine dex.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I am not that Tau player and I am very salty about where the Tau are balance wise. Your throwing people opinions under a bus with no idea of who they are or how they are adapting to 8th and assuming they have no idea what is good or not or even what they ran in 7th and now in 8th with success. People with more mixed lists are only doing marginally better than the old 7e suit spam lists.
