Not where I should be

Wonderful. Brings a smile to my face, and a tear to my eyes. Brilliant.

KingCracker -- Yeah, I've still got the Hellcat I could try that with, also I've been eyeing a Ju-87 that while it's also 1/72, should be bigger since the actual plane was bigger (45ft spanv s the 37ft of the tomahawk that's the basis for this one). I've thought about leaving the dakkajets "small" and making the bombers bigger. I've got one of those meng-kids B17's but while it's span is a little more, it's fuselage is even shorter. I may just go ahead and build the hellcat as a similar dakkajet (I've got the jet waiting for it) and then see how they look singly or in pairs on the flyer base.

Janma -- Thanks! I've been having fun with these guys. I've played 2 whole games (at ~750 points since that's all i could field) but the modelling aspect is what sucks me in. Some day I aspire to be as good as some of the folks on this forum, but in the meanwhile I'll settle for having fun .

Cam -- LOL, thanks! My son cries about my modelling too, but for different reasons . "Why, Dad? Why?" He's partial to 'umies in power armor though, so his judgement is clearly in question.

Progress is slow, but progress is progress. I got the fuel drums on and washed it up in prep for paint shop, and then realized I had forgotten to add the fuel lines! It needs some straps on the fuel lines to keep them from fluttering in the breeze, but then I think the jet itself will be ready for primer. Thankfully the pilot comes out so i can paint him up separate from the jet -- the plan is to get the jet painted to a tabletop standard and at least temporarily based (so i can see how tiny it looks and decide if I want 1 or 2 per base), then work on the pilot. Knowing me though he'll sit on my workbench silently judging me while I get distracted by kans or a scrapjet that's mulling around in my head.

Anyhow, pictures! Suggestions for paint appreciated -- the army colors are purple and white (or purple and yellow, depending on my mood) but for some reason I really want to paint those fuel drums red. Maybe because it'll make the jet go fasta!

Burtucky, Michigan

The plane looks to clean, you should slap patch panels and rivets on there, some bullet holes and so on. Here's a WIP of a DAKKAJet I made forever ago (should probably take pics since it's been finished for like 3 years lol)

Go for a more ramshackle look. It's super Orky and once you get the hang of that style you can Ork-ify vehicles pretry quick

Got a few more gubbinz on the dakkajet before I got distracted by my new toy (an Ender 3 Pro). This is going to be dangerous... my first prints were some tank treads. I primed and sloshed some brown wash on both a printed tread and a robogear tread just for comparison sake -- very little post-print cleanup (and minimal mold line cleanup on the robogear piece). Although the detail/quality isn't the same, I actually think the treads on the printed one have more character (though I prefer all the extra gubbins in the middle on the robogear). I'm hoping the print lines will be less visible with some paint on there (I figured white prime + agrax earthshade would be about the least forgiving, it should only get better from there).

Dakkajet, simply brilliant work. Though would agree, couple panels would add to the picture.

The tracks are looking brilliant as well. Seriously thinking about one of these printers, though have to ask, were does the print file come from, did you make it or is it a file on a site?

I have made molds and cast parts like this with some success, but never 100% happy. Just being able to print easy would be great, but I think it would take longer to design on computer than make a master to mold from.

Thanks, Cam. I can't take any credit for the tracks (one being robogear, the other being AgentSmith99's talented work), but by golly and I having fun with them! I got my print files off the Thingiverse -- the aforementioned AgentSmith99 has a whole series of "GrotMek's" stuff -- grot tanks, mek guns, etc. Sadly I have no 3d modelling skills, though I do intend to learn fusion360 and probably start by remixing/modifying some existing things to more suit my needs (like shrinking the KMK into a KMB, adding magnet holes, etc.).

For me at least the printer was a good purchase. I'm having a ball with it but my family is starting to complain about the non-stop noise (it's not exactly quiet, and the prints do take a goodly while).

In parting, have some gratuitous pics of grot tanks ready for the paint shop! Hopefully I'll have PIP photos of these guys before long.
<edit> doh, just realized only one of those is actually ready for the paint shop. The others have all been primed and overbrushed gunmetal in preparation for paint, but I forgot this pic was taken before then</edit>

Also a buddy at work cut some flying and buggy bases out of 1/4" mdf for me so hopefully I can clean up my workspace such that I can tinker again and finish some WIP. I've decided the land-sailboat needs to be a Deff-Killa War Trike, and the robogear stuff has provided the perfect bit for a harpoon launcher to model the grabba-klaw. I also broke down and paid retail for some gnoblar fighters so I can get some variety in the grots to crew vehicles etc. So much to do, so little time (and space to work... my supply of bits has exceeded my storage capacity and completely covered by normal work area).

More gratuitous pics, this time of a smasha gun ready for paintshop (also printed, files from thingiverse, same artist as the grot tanks).
