@lorizael I know that gw use the figures to measure recruitment (having had to hit those targets myself), but dv is a poor measure. Many existing players buy new boxes to get the rules and new models. Many of those sales didn't happen for 7th, as it was a repack of 6th. Those two army and rules boxes like death storm, and storm claw(?) would have also been bought by new hobbyists, but didn't count towards core game sales. Saying that AoS sales matched 40k isn't a real like for like comparison. I'm not trying to be argumentative, only pointing out that the statement doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

It's a comparison used within the company though, and was seen as significant. The majority of new hobbyists who start 40K in a GW store, start with the 40K core box. The majoority of new hobbyists who start AoS/fantasy in a GW store start with the Fantasy core box.
Going from a ratio near 8:1, to 1:1 is pretty siginificant.

As an early adopter of AoS, I was peeved to buy 3 Stormcast books now in 2 years?

I got a sensational deal on the boxed sets, bought 4 and have only had to buy a few add-ins since.

I like it, the double turn mechanic is cool as well as hero's being able to be sniped right off the bat vs. blind/hidden models stopping me from shooting them in 40k...

LVO AoS last year was a blast and getting to talk to the developers and offer suggestions for GH II was cool too.

Playing 40k this year, but I will still stop by the tables to see the games/armies.

No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester

For Sanguinary Guard, is there a reason I am missing that I should take an Encarmine Axe over a Power Fist? I know the -1 to hit sucks, but with Rerolls of all to-hits, it has to be pretty decent. Nevermind the fact that the Power Fist from that kit is one of the coolest looking Power Fist bits in existence.

Any reason to give them any special pistols? Seems like the Angelus Boltgun is pretty great on its own.

I've been running a freelance tabletop game design company as my full-time job for a year today! Ask me anything.
Hey /r/tabletopgamedesign! I'm James, and one year ago today I started up Needy Cat Games (www.needycatgames.com).

As for the work not being used, that didn't bother me at all. I got used to that when I was working at GW - I once wrote rules for an entire Warhammer 40,000 Codex supplement that got canned.

I wonder what that was...

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

It was Codex: Balancing the rules.

GW didn’t think it was necessary and too far of a departure from their current style.

Or given the supplement, it may have been one of those Chapter/Craftworld/Renegades books from 6th that they made for a while then suddenly stopped.

Oy, you lot, my ears are burning. Do you mind?

Anyway, it was a codex supplement - not gonna go into details, but basically it was an add-on for an existing codex I'd worked on (along the lines of the Imperial Fists one, the Black Legion one, the Militarum Tempestus one etc). It was one of the first things I did there, and I don't think the wargaming world missed much by it not being released.
