We had 32 clocks out on the tables so enough for 64 people. As noted though, we could basically give anyone a clock that asked for one.
We only required them for those with a winning record who were in the hunt to win the event. We didn't want to end on a sour note with a pivotal game only getting through three turns or what have you.
A lot of players were using them day 1 just to keep their games moving along.
I think good solution if you are of a mind to use them is to make them optional for players that want them and possibly enforce them on the championships tables if time is a concern. If you have a player that is being reported as not finishing games, you can politely request they use a clock so as not to create un-fun games for their opponents. It's crazy how much faster people start going when they see their time ticking down.
But yeah, again, they're a great tool but not something I see being mandatory for all tables.
