If you pay attention to the environment that surrounds Thanos and Gamora in the scene post snap, it's a diffuse orange, which incedentally is the same colour as the soul gem.
Inferring from that bit of information alone, we can probably safely assume she's trapped within and it's how Thanos is able to meet and speak with her, since he possesses the soul gem.

Having now had it presented to me on a plate, it's so obvious and I totally get it. /cue primal howl of rage!

I like the idea of Cap going back in time. Just not expecting it still. Would be a great send off though, could rewrite a lot of the story so it would include the X-Men. Think Cap does something and saves Charles and Max/Erik/Magnus. But just that would be changing sooooo much of the universe. It would almost be like a start over.

Well, it isn't something you can really pick up on viewings if you do not know how the Soul Gem works. Sure, you might notice it is Orange hued. But why would you be looking for that in the first place? Most would assume the sun on the planet is different or something.

Well, generally the fact that she died and then appeared as a kid talking about the thing he just did would make you think twice about whats going on. Especially when her death was directly related to aquiring the soul gem.

Im just saying there is something there to make you think something is going on.

He also has the reality stone and it was shown it can do great things on Knowhere. I mean, it's not really something that is going to click with most people. Not with so many ways for him to make that scenario happen.

Sure. But they have done a pretty good job of staying consistent with the effects and the colors. All the space stone portals are blue. All the power energy and explosions are purple. Reality stone always comes in red cloudy waves. All the time stuff is green. If the reality stone was in play for that there would be visual indicators of it.

Yeah, I know.

But those are not things people are looking for constantly. But the thing is, people watching the movie have no clue what a "Soul Stone" actually does. What it can do.

This is why we have the plague of "10 things you missed in the new movie!" or "5 important things you missed in the trailer!" youtube videos.
