If gw sticks with auras in 9th then most armies will continue to rely on castles so anything you charge will have plenty of friends within 12. So not much of a drawback.

Eh... That hasn't really been my experience. Sure, if charge into a pile of fire warriors, there's a good chance shadowsun, a fireblade, and some random infantry will be nearby. Maybe even a riptide or what have you. But I'm really only scared of the riptide's shooting, and even then, I'm not getting shot by the second riptide or the hammerheads off in the corners.

Against a guard army, guard don't really have much reason to bunch up, and they have plenty of reason to spread their artillery out (to avoid getting locked down by a single charging unit), so I could see it being helpful there.

Basically, most armies I play against don't really stick their entire army in a single blob; it's mostly tau and marines, and even those two probably have a significant chunk of their army elsewhere trying to score objectives or stay away form the front lines. But maybe our experiences differ.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
