I would not be surprised in the slightest if it were a direct inspiration for those early 40K writers.

12 Angry Men (the one with Henry Fonda), a theatre play made into a movie format that still holds up today very well in terms of quality and thematic.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly, probably one if not the best western ever made.

The Lion King; probably the best Disney movie they ever made and an animation classic in its own right.

Psycho the original one by Alfred Hitchcock; one of the best horror movie I've seen

Silence of the Lambs for the same reason as the one above.

Alien; a quasi perfect mix of horror and science fiction.

Nuit et Brouillard; the most dreadful and horrifying thing ever filmed.

Rocky; probably one of the best sport's movie ever made and certainly the best of Stallone

If you like sf and horror, I can recommend "Quatermass and the pit", the full movie. I think it was a great mix of those two genres as well.

Also the FPS game "System shock 2" despite horribly dated graphic should satisfy your hunger for a god horror sf game.

Everyone should see "The rocky horror picture show" at least once, in a real honest to ghawd theater, with full audience participation. It is an experience you will never forget.
