If they showed all of that, it would be the single largest and most comprehensive preview that GW has ever done, at best you're probably only going to get about half that many reveals.

Realistically you're getting:

-Eldar full preview
-CSM full preview
-Kill Team Reveal (Eldar v Imperium or Chaos, forget what the rumor was)
-Idoneth and Fyreslayers Battletom Reveal
-Imperial and Chaos Knights Reveal
-Big Horus Heresy Reveal (hopefully)
-Something for Necromunda, whatever that might be

I would be surprised if we got much more than that.

Would you know it? First time I play it sensible and keep in mind that 30K stuff is usually shown at its own event, this early in the year, we get a new friggin warhound announced today and some "mysterious" Horus Heresy announcement for Friday!

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Worth a small mention that Nimbosa's timeline is all over the place though. There was a mention of another Guard Regiment in plastic aside from the Cadians and Death Korps though?

Would agree, but that event is the only thing connected to that specific year.

Weird that they choose something like this. It got me kind of excited.

So, if this means Vostroyans, what we expecting? Kill Team or actual 40k?

I hope its not plastic vostroyans, only because I already own over 200 metal ones and I would have a really hard time justifying to myself buying more, while at the same time having a really really hard time trying to convince myself NOT to buy more.

In the video games, the Slann were represented by a Kislevite Circus team that used the exact same stats. Instead of a Kroxigor they had a performing bear that whipped people with its chain to represent the prehensile tail.

Seems very unlikely we'd get Vostroyans when Krieg haven't been expanded into a full range yet, and Catachans still need work. How many IG regiments do we think they can reasonably support?

The at this point 100% accurate rumors that should be taken as gospel indicates that there would be updated Cadians ("veteran style" - this was before the upgrade sprue was released, so its unclear if theres more to come on that front or if that is it, although the rumor source indicated that Kasrkin would return), plus "two new regiments are also in the works", so yeah it seems very likely we're going to get Krieg (I would guess them to be one of the two regiments being worked on) plus another one (possibly Vostroyans).

Honestly, they should just fundamentally re-work the style of some of the regiments and have dual and/or upgrade kits and get out at least 4 regiments.

I'd let catchans go to be honest, they just aren't needed. It would be a shame in some respect, but I'd take catachans going and getting Elysians, or tallarn etc.

Catachans absolutely aren't being binned off though, considering the special models of late, but still.

Well, they have 8 'troop' boxes (plus multiple elites) for their small AoS side skirmish game, plus about the same in Necromunda, sooo...

Depends. If they go for very distinct alternatives, then two at most. If they go for variants of a base model, maybe four or five. If they do a mix (Catchan base with Chem dog variant, Krieg base with Steel Legion variant), then probably somewhere inbetween those numbers.

Quite a few. Right now a regiment is done with command box+infantry box+heavy weapon box.
The new Krieg squad has enough bits that a separate command box is pretty unnecessary. Just the heavy weapons team.

Given how many roles basic infantry can fulfill (squad, command squad, special weapons squad, commander, lieutenant, etc, etc) they're pretty all purpose.
So it really depends on how... 'generous' GW is feeling? I'm sure a bean-counter somewhere put a line under wherever their prediction for diminishing returns is, but 3-4 regiments with two boxes each doesn't seem unreasonable for a neglected faction.

Cadians, Catachans, and Krieg I would say are safe bets for inclusion in the Codex. I would like to think that GW will do what it did last time and feature kitbashes alongside the inclusion of the custom Regimental traits.

It says at the end of this article, that a Kill Team expansion for Viligus is due. Considering every that every Faction is currently, it doesn't really narrow down who is the box:

The problem with that (I imagine) is that the different variants would cannibalise each other, so even though there's only 4-5 skus per faction, the expenditure of designing and tooling 4-5 skus (x5 factions) would be a lot less appealing to them that 4-5 (x1 faction), given that there's only so many people interested in buying Guard of any flavour, and the buyers would just stick to the flavour they like best (a problem that space marines have never had due to their unique history of extreme popularity and the relative ease with which the core component of any flavour of marine can be flipped to any other flavour with the addition of a single accessory sprue, and often not even requiring that).

My guess is that when IG finally do get a new book and new models, Krieg will be the center of the codex. Cadia was destroyed in the fluff, so it would make sense that they change the poster child.

My guess for new miniatures would be Krieg Heavy weapons team, Krieg Engineers (in plastic), and Krieg Death Rider (also in plastic). Engineers and Death Riders were really the only units from the Krieg list that made the jump to 9th edition and didn't get sent away to Legends (Death Riders also had some recent art in the new Ork Codex). The current Krieg box has bits you could use to make a command squad.

As much as I would love to Catachans or Vostroyans getting an update too, I just don't see GW giving that much attention to IG. Almost guaranteed Cadians won't either as they got that upgrade sprue tacked on to their old kit.

Two things.
1 - Good God I hope Krieg doesn't get made the poster child Guard faction. That would be horrendously stupid and do so much damage to the hobby image.
2 - Cadia is a system, not just a planet. The Cadian Regiments were raised and garrisoned all over the Cadian Gate and sent out into the Galaxy with thousands of Regiments to spare. It was even added in the 8th Ed Codex that many worlds with settled Cadian Regiments took up arms again and raised new Cadian Regiments to get vengeance for their lost homeworld. Then there are the many other Regiments that are trained by Cadian officers, use Cadian gear and Cadian tactics like the Truscan Snowhounds or Faeburn Vanquishers. There is literally no reason for Cadians to not still be the poster faction.

Krieg would be fantastic! The IG are already basically a WW1 army and the Krieg are basically a French inspired WW1 designed set of infantry.

I still think GW should do to IG what they did to Slaves to Darkness and release a series of infantry boxed sets. Each one your basic infantry with heavy support weapons and a few optional parts (eg banner, commander etc...). Setting each one around a different famous group of infantry. They could even throw in some optional decorative parts for putting on tanks and such.

Then they can do Cadians, Kriege, Catachan and others.

They don't have to change anything else of the IG line, just release those warpacks for each regiment - a single plastic sprue.

1) I'm not saying that they should, or shouldn't do it - I'm predicting that's what they will do. Why exactly would it be horrendously stupid and why would it do so much damage to the hobby image?
2) Yes, not every Cadian regiment was destroyed. There were several Cadian regiments that survived and there have been regiments trained and outfitted by Cadians since back in 4th edition. But the primary planet (along with most of the Cadian regiments) were destroyed, and their models have not aged well (to be fair - they weren't even great back then) - it would make a lot of sense for GW to move on from them.

Oh. I agree, SKU reluctance will kept guard small and neglected. I expect the current Boring Ones and Atrocities to remain as they are (Cadians and Catachans, for clarity ), Krieg to get fleshed out beyond the KT squad, and _maybe_ one more added along the same lines as Krieg. And that's it. Maybe a new tank (that uses pretty much all the rumor engine bits).

But they could do more- that's what I meant by 'generous'

Because some people are ahistorical and randomly assume gasmask=WW2 Germans, rather than their actual derivation. Its a kneejerk reaction that doesn't have much place in reality.

Since they just did the additional sprue, Cadians are more than likely sticking around. Though i expect less narrative focus on them.

Ehhh...Cadia, the planet, was fractured.
Cadia, the sector and system, is still around.

My guess for new miniatures would be Krieg Heavy weapons team, Krieg Engineers (in plastic), and Krieg Death Rider (also in plastic). Grenadiers, Engineers, and Death Riders are all featured in art accompanying the Ork Codex+Octarius Kill Team book.

At this point I'm actually tentatively thinking some of the stuff I've been wishlisting for might be happening, given that the repacked Cadians and now the DKoK both do not feature a Heavy Weapons Team in them. They have multiple specials though!

As much as I would love to Catachans or Vostroyans getting an update too, I just don't see GW giving that much attention to IG. Almost guaranteed Cadians won't either as they got that upgrade sprue tacked on to their old kit.

The upgrade sprue, purportedly, was designed to go with a redone Cadian kit...which is something that the dude who called out DKoK v Kommandos a year out specifically noted. Cadians, Kasrkin, and a new vehicle between LR+Baneblade size.

Plus, as someone else mentioned, two other Regiments in plastic. It doesn't say full ranges for all of them. Just some Regiments in plastic.

So far, only the Cadians and Krieg are rumored to have multiple items tied to them--with Krieg having the most.

The Krieg are idolised by the fash elements within the hobby and I'm not saying that everyone that likes the DKoK are fash but the very vocal fash within the community like to use them as outlets for their fashness.

Replace several with most in that first bit. You're just wrong with your knowledge of the Cadian Regiments.
Also, the Cadians got a recent upgrade sprue and them not aging well is an opinion, not a fact. It would make 0 sense for GW to can them in favour of DKoK.

The DKoK box is actually stupid good for what's in there. I was able to build out a Command Squad, a Company Commander, a Master of Ordnance, and 2x squads from having split three boxes with people wanting Kommandos+scenery.

For what's coming, purportedly, for the Krieg? It's shaking out to be 3 boxes(Death Riders, Infantry Squad, Grenadiers/Engineers dual kit), and 3 blisters/small box(Death Rider Officer, Heavy Weapon Team, Commissar).

Cadians, purportedly, are just a new Cadian box and Kasrkin box.

It's for the purposes of Conscripts.
